I've been looking at diamondsontheweb.com, israeldiamonds.com and uniondiamonds.com and I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with any of them (or possibly another site I'm not thinking of).

TIA

I think it's less common in Europe where I live to order a diamond online. There a many ladies here with good experiences with ordering online. I would not do it I guess as I find seeing and touching the diamond is part of a very special process. I have to be in love with a diamond before I buy it.
Have fun choosing your diamond!

I'm working with briangavindiamonds.com right now on a purchase. I can't recommend them enough. They are thorough with information, carry amazing, well cut diamonds, and understand what I'm looking for. Pricescope.com has a list of recommended online vendors that are reputable. I have contacted union diamond in the past, but they took long to reply and couldn't supply the information I was looking for -not to say that they're bad, but they were not the right vendor for me.

I have purchased diamonds from GoodOldGold.com and Whiteflash.com. Both were beautiful, though I vastly preferred my experience with Good Old Gold to Whiteflash because a lot went horribly wrong with my Whiteflash items.

As far as the ones you mentioned, the only one I know of as being reputable is Union Diamond.

Even though I realize that some people here on tPF have purchased online and been quite happy - I agree with Monica - I could never make such a purchase without seeing the diamond firsthand. Then, should you want/need to return, could be a very big pain in the A##. :D

Yes, and buying online is the ONLY way I'll ever buy diamonds/jewelry going forward. Well, maybe except for Cartier or VCA! Reputable online vendors offer the best possible prices for the best quality diamonds (always aim for ideal or excellent cut, graded by GIA or AGS). Go to pricescope.com for great diamond education.

I've purchased:
1. A 3.56 carat round (ideal cut) from jamesallen.com. It was awhile ago but I believe I sent them a deposit to ship the diamond out to me to have it appraised locally. After my appraiser verified that it matched its certificate and was indeed a high-quality stone, I purchased it!
2. Had the above diamond set by Leon at artofplatinum.com
3. Purchased a 3.2 total carat weight eternity band from whiteflash.com. Their reputation is quite good and they deal a lot in ideal cut stones. I trusted them to make me the perfect band, and they did!

Has anyone ordered a diamond internationally? The Pharmacist and I are starting to look at engagement rings, but the selection available in Australia is both dismal and vastly overpriced. We're looking for a well-cut cushion in the 3-4ct range. I love the look of GOG's cushions but am not sure about making such a big purchase across such a large distance. Does anyone have any advice to offer?

I'm prepared to pay the customs fees - I still think that even with this, I'll get a better quality of diamond if buying from OS.

However, I'm interested to hear of any good/bad/average experiences that people have had when doing this ... are there any online jewellers/wholesalers that you trust implicitly not to rip you off?
