This thread is the opposite of losing anything special. I was just wondering if anyone out there has every found anything "special". After looking at the other thread, all this valuable and sentimental jewelry must go somewhere. Such a mystery.......

My husband and I go metal detecting on the beaches here from time to time, and all we find are coins. And that doesn't happen very often.

I once found a ring when I was 9. I was digging in the sand and there it was. I wore it for years on a chain around my neck. When I lost it i was very upset.
other than that i cant really remember finding anything.
I do know a woman though who found a gold ring. She was walking in Paris and then she saw a woman picking up a ring on the sidewalk. the woman caught her eye. and said to my friend "is this yours?", "no", the lady tried putting it on her fingers but it did not fit. "you try it" she said to my friend and the ring fit perfectly on her finger so the other woman told her to keep it.

Ha, I love this story!

My bf found a Tiffany's silver bracelet. He was walking to work (back when he took the bus to commute) and it was lying in the gutter under a bunch of garbage. He came home and was like, "Hey, you want a bracelet from Tiffany's?" and pulled it out of his pocket! I initially wanted to try and figure out who might have lost it, but he said he found it on a busy city street with no businesses immediately nearby. We figured that there was no reasonable way of tracking down the owner so I kept it, got it polished up at the jeweler, and wear it from time to time.

My friend found £2,000 in the street. There were also travellers cheques with names on. She handed them in to the police and the owners were found.

My friend received no thanks.

Years ago I visited some friends in another state and went to the beach with them. Somehow, someone must have dropped a Tag Heuer watch in the outside pocket of my beach bag. I found it when I got home. I assumed it belonged to one of my friends and told them about it. They said it wasn't theirs. I gave it to them and asked them to post a sign near that beach when they go back (they have a beach house in that town, whereas I haven't been back there since). I don't know if they ever did, but I had done what I could.

I have vound various dollar bills lying on the ground before (the most of which was $100 bill when I was a kid). I've never found any jewelry though. My mom found a Swarovski bracelet in a liquor store parking lot and gave it to me last Christmas.

I have found two women's wallets in my time, not too much cash in either, maybe a couple of hundred. First wallet i handed in to the police, no phone call to say if the owner stepped forward to claim it. The second one looked like it was a little old ladies & it was near Christmas. I received a phone call from the police saying it was claimed & the owner said thanks.A phone call from the owner would of been nice....

I found an old silver tag from my HS that my father found when he was metal-detecting near the school fields.

I still have an old SS ring with green plastic in it in the shape of an apple, it was a find somewhere along his searching days (my dad) so who knows what field or playground he found it in (or beach!).

I find it sad that you got no thank you. You could have just pocketed it and no instead you bring it too the police and yet no thank you from the owners :(.
When my dog ran away I was terrified he got run over by a car or something. But no he had tried to go home but was too tired and had just gone in somebody's garden and fallen asleep lol. We find this story pretty funny now. Anyway they called the police who called me and I ran over there to get him. i spent 10 mn frantically thanking them and later sent them flowers etc.
Once i found a dog in the street. He was by himself and a little medal around his neck. As i didnt have my phone on me i had to walk bended over for 15 mn as he wasnt big and I was holding his collar. then i brought him home and called the owner who just said a quick "thanks" to me and rushed away with the dog. Ok...
But anyway my dogs are much more precious than my jewelry:hugs::hugs:
Sorry for the OT:shame:

Every 2nd Sunday or so, I spread out my jewelry to admire it and than it dawned on me that I should go looking through my moms stuff to see if in all that '70's mess there was anything good. So I went over there and asked her to drag out her old jewelry boxes and sure enough I found 2 rhinestone necklaces that were signed Sherman. I had looked it up and they were good vintage pieces. So I told her they should come and have a sleepover at my place. Hehe. She let me have them.

I forgot to mention, my father DID find a HS ring (and had it for a year or so) of someone that he found either at a nearby field of that HS or otherwise. He tried to interpret the name on the inside but after calling the school and giving the last name they were unable to find the person.

He then gave ME the ring, and after a careful identification of the real last name (cursive on the inside can make letters hard to understand if the ring is beat up badly) I ended up tracking down the mother of the girl that owned the ring, the girl being deployed overseas and thus I sent the ring to the mom so she could give it to her daughter when she returned.

THOSE are the kinda stories I wish that happened more often, but as stated in the "lost" thread, to many people either don't have the moral drive or the time/effort to invest in finding the real owner of the item if they DO discover something like that (or have stolen it and don't care about such details).

My husband and I were in a nice resort in Burmuda - in the room safe their were these gigantic pearl and diamond earrings - my husband being the "good" one handed it in to the front desk when we were checking out - the staffer just quickly grabbed them and slid them into a drawer - somehow I get the feeling they never went back to their rightfull owner. We should have made she it was recorded in some way -live and learn
