It's so nice to read your preferences and your experiences with Epsom leather!

I was only considering togo until I got my first sellier in epsom and when I first saw it I almost fainted, it took my breath away!!! Now I am really loving both leathers almost equally :)
I read also that you are often recommending epsom as it's more durable, lightweight and eventually more rain-proof. I have an etoupe epsom and I wonder if lighter colors will get stained if they get wet. I don't aim to use my bags in the rain but it can happen very suddenly here.
I was wondering if the rain-proof could apply also to lighter colors or could the water leave marks?
I was once caught in the heavy rain with my Birkin togo in black and as soon as I entered the car I dried it carefully and no marks at all, what a relief :)

Thank you for reading and for your thoughts! I am dreaming of epsom now!!!

I bought my first H Epsom since last summer, she is a K32 retourne in white. I use her like 1-2 times per week and we've caught in the rain few times, I just simply wiped her down with dry cloth or tissue paper and she was perfectly ok not leaving any water sign or marks. Sometimes I even put my glasslock snack box inside her to work, it was a bit heavy but she has no change of shape, very sturdy bag.

When I first met her I was a bit worried about white bag maintenance but now I am very relaxed bringing her to work or use as day bag frequently.

That's absolutely amazing!!! She must be so gorgeous, white and retourne epsom, waw! do you have any pictures here? It's so important to be able to use what we have, it's fantastic that you can enjoy it regularly!
I completely fell in love with epsom so I plan on using mine as much as I can! thank you so much for your reply!!

Rain is fine as long as you don’t drench it and let it naturally dry at home afterward.

I was also recently offered a birkin 30 epsom phw. It was my first birkin offer from an U.S. store. I’ve bought a birkin 25 Togo in Paris FSH a few years back. I turned down the epsom because not only was the bag super stiff, it also had sort of a plasticky kind of smell to it, definitely different from the intoxicating smell of Togo leather. I would wait.
You are right that Epsom bags have a plasticky kind of smell to it. My K28 sellier in espom has that smell I don't really like but hope the smell will go away with time. I will only take espom in a Kelly sellier. For Birkins, I prefer Togo with a slouchy causal feel.

Hi Everyone!
I hope someone can clarify my confusion. Can Epsom leather feel different depending on the color? My husband believes it’s because all leather can be treated a bit differently but I currently own a Kelly sellier in black and a Birkin sellier in etain and for some reason my Birkin sellier feels more.. plasticky? It’s pretty smooth with a bit of texture while my Kelly feels more textured and dry (I apologize in advance) I’m not good at describing things but they do feel quite different and I’m just not sure if it’s normal.

Happy new year and thank you!

Assuming this is not a question of authenticity, I would say it’s normal and may not be necessarily a function of colour but production.

I don’t have epsom bag but I have bought two epsom calvi duo. To my surprise, the newer one was thicker, more flexible and less plasticky than the older one. I am surprised at how different the two are despite both being epsom. Hopefully this helps.

Thank you for your response! :)

Both bags were purchased directly from the boutique so I’m just a little surprised the leather can feel so different haha. I initially thought it might be that they changed the quality of their leather since my kelly was produced last year and the Birkin was produced this year.

Do you find that one can be shinier than the other?

Hi! I know that this is an old thread but I have been looking for more information about epsom leather. I recently came across 2 kelly bags, same color (noir), both epsom. but one is shinier than the other. one is quite matte. so i am wondering if, like chanel caviar, there are differences in hermes epsom depending on when they were made.
