In the next 18m we will be upgrading my engagement ring. I currently have a 0.30ct round solitaire with diamonds on the band. We will most likely be picking a pear diamond with a micro halo on a diamond band.

I have very slim fingers - my ring finger is a size 2.5. I tried on my friend’s engagement ring as it’s very similar to what I’m looking for (except hers is oval). Centre stone is 0.75ct. What do you think of the finger coverage on me? If it matters at all, I’m in the U.K.

Thank you

So are you thinking of getting the oval cut? Or are you just thinking of coverage in terms of diamond carat size?

Sorry I am a bit confused :P
Sorry!! It’s been a long day!! I want a pear diamond, however, I just tried on my friends ring to get an idea of finger coverage since the design is similar (centre stone, halo, diamond band). I was trying to get an idea of finger coverage of a 0.75ct on me.

Ah, got it thanks.

One more question lol. Are you planning to change your wedding band to be complimentary to your new engagement ring? Or is your wedding band going to stay the same?
Or if you haven't gotten married yet, what do you envision your wedding band to be with the new engagement ring?

I’ll be keeping & wearing my original wedding band. It’s alternating round & marquis diamonds so the eventual set will look something like this (but with the bands swapped around):

My wedding ring has very fine milgrain so I will try to add equally fine milgrain to the halo as well.

Thank you for answering my questions!

I think the size 0.75 ct pear shape, eyeballing from your friend's oval diamond and looking at some online photos, is a very cute and feminine size. Definitely a classic shape and it won't be too overpowering for your very slender fingers.
Overall, I don't see anything that would be a potential "problem" or concern.

Are you able to go into a jewelry store and just try on various sizes just to see how they look on you? I think that's the best way to determine if you know it is the one for you!

Your slim fingers will definitely allow for amazing coverage!

A pear will look lovely. If you want extra sparkly coverage you can get a setting with slim side stones too.

Oh that’s pretty!! I do like side stones. I saw this photo & thought it was beautiful. Unfortunately my husband doesn’t like it (he thinks it looks like a fly?!)

I think the 0.75ct looks cute on me but I think I could go a little bigger. I know I prefer the look of fat pears rather than long skinny ones so hopefully that’ll help with coverage.

I definitely want to start trying some on soon! I recently had surgery on my ring finger (hence waiting 12-18m before we get the ring) but I’m very happy to try lots on my other hand!

My advice: go slightly bigger than you think you need if you can. After a while, diamonds shrink. Teehee
I’ve found this photo online which in my eyes has the perfect coverage & proportions. I have no idea how to replicate that on my fingers!!

If you’re going to upgrade I would go larger than a .75 ctw for the upgraded center stone. When upgrading, I would go for the biggest diamond I could afford just in case it’s the last upgrade for a while.

I wouldn't go below 1 ct for an upgrade; but since your fingers are so slim & you will add a halo, not much more either .
Good luck with your recovery & keep us posted on your diamond journey!
One point with pears- they often have bowties (ie an area in the center that goes dark & looks like a bowtie shape). Some ppl don't care, others do. Just something to be aware of in your search.

Love pear shapes! Gorgeous
Me too! I don’t know anyone in real life who has one (all have either round or princess) so I like the idea of having something a little different.

This I’ll definitely be my only upgrade so I’ll bear that in mind!

Is there a way to avoid the bow tie or do all pears have them?

If you are certain that this will be your only upgrade, definitely go to a jewelry store and try on different carat weights. Once you do this, choose the largest stone (that looks the best on your hand) that you can comfortably afford. If you start out too small with your upgrade you will get diamond envy and eventually want larger. Trust me! On a 2.5 finger, I think 1 and 1/4 would look massive and lovely on you. Then once you halo it the finger coverage will be significant but not overwhelming. Plus it will have presence if you wear the ering alone. Good luck deciding!
