Being a diamond lover, given all things status quo, and color the same between the 2, the HW one seems like a decent deal.

I would think that color would be the first thing that ppl notice - White / yellowish, and that is the most obvious to the naked eye.

With regards to clarity, unless the rock is big, tiny, minute inclusions are hard to spot with the naked eye.

I think the Van Clef design is much prettier than the H W design - have you asked them about other diamonds available in that setting in your price range? They should be able to find one at another store.

I'm just curious, no Cartier?? I love some of the Cartier rings.

For the Spring setting, they only use .3c and .5c for it. The .5 one is like 3,000 more so it is out of my range =[

The biggest rock I can get at these places is a .69 Tryst setting at HW, but she doesn't like the setting much. Since I have a limited budget, my options are limited at these stores.

Everyone has given me really good input. I am leaning towards the HW cause of the size. However, I learned today that the setting is DIFFERENT for every since solitaire, they have to use a different font depending on the size, so it's almost a crapshoot on the setting! I will ask them to ship in the one I am interested to make sure it's the setting she likes, otherwise I will go with the safe pick and pick the VCA

I will tell you the results on what I do and what she says when the come in!

Can VCA not go down in clarity/color for the Spring setting? That would allow for a .5 ct.

Same with the HW, though I don't really care for that setting at all.

since your girlfriend openly admits she is into the name more than the size of the stone, then i would definitely lean towards the harry winston. at least with the hw design, it clearly has the "h" and the "w" on the sides of the prongs. so everybody will know it's a harry winston.
