Just get something high quality that he can afford because when he actually gives it to you, you will not be thinking "oOOh wish it was Tiffany's!"

:) It's an exciting time in your life and his as well...Tiffany's can really put financial pressure over a guy especially when he's just started working. But hey, if HE makes the decision to buy it there himself then all's great.

If price is an object I would never do a Tiffany ring. Nobody will know its from the high-end jeweler but you. A diamond is a diamond and they all come from the same place. They dont have seperate diamond mines just for Tiffany. As long as its certified you know that youre getting what you pay for and the quality will be the same, regardless of the box it comes in. Im a big fan of the diamond district here in NYC. Youll get a whole lot more sparkle for your dollar and you can pick a setting that will be unique and not on a national web site. If you cant get to NYC, I suggest looking on ebay, as many sellers have online stores there. You can get a GIA VS2 colorless stone for 5-6k. Zales, Macys, Jareds tend to have lower grade stones for a higher price. I strongly encurage you to do some research on prices and to pay most attention to the actual ring, not the store it comes from...Especially if size is a factor:)

I highly recommend you check out pricescope.com. Buying diamonds online is a great way to find high quality stones for less. Avoid any chain store. Tiffany's diamonds are marked up 100% from what you would pay for a diamond online.
