Thanks all, I was looking at this site at first and figured 1carat would be easy but the base price has 'P' clarity stones, which having read up on them are way off the bottom of the scale.

P clarity is not so good, means there could be honking big inclusions you can see with the naked eye.
P comes from the french term pique, and its found on the CIBJO grading system...on the GIA one, that term becomes I- included and ranges from 1 down to 3...I1 I2 etc.As you have discovered, its not so good,I would run with what the other ladies are saying and go for smaller stones of better quality. As soon as you reach the magical 1ct size, the price hikes up enormously.

i agree to try to make it below the 1 carat mark...though even below 1 carat, getting any stone of decent/ok quality will be difficult at $2k. i did hear that emerald cut diamonds are cheaper than other shapes of the same quality and size (though u do have to keep the clarity up since it's a clear stone). good luck in ur search!
