I didn't have a great experience with Blue Nile and ended up returning mine after a couple weeks of trying to get "permission." I found a local broker instead and bought it there for a couple hundred dollars less. That's my 2 cents at least

Be sure to use a coupon! It wont be effective on the price of the diamond, but it will on the setting. Look online, usually you can find a 20-30% one.

I've never purchased from there, but my friend's husband got her marquise diamond engagement ring from there about 7 years ago and it was GORGEOUS. We were all skeptical when he ordered it, but it was absolutely breathtaking when it arrived.

From what I've seen so far online blue Nile is actually one of the more expensive dealers. Other sites will sometimes offer larger discounts an will have the stones in house for you to ask them questions about. Also, some local jewelers will compete with blue nile and price match and even absorb the tax into the price! Blue Nile carries a lot of virtual stones too so you can always ask your local store if they can bring it in for you. My sister did that and had the store match what she would have gotten online. That way you can have the maintenance for your ring in person and see everything before purchasing. However, you may not be able to get the exact blue Nile setting.
