ENGAGEMENT! Men's rings?

When I got engaged, my bf was the same, he pretty much demanded an engagement ring as he didn't see it fair that he has to buy me something and he gets nothing. I ended up getting him a ring, but broke it off with him not long after because I figured if he struggled to let me have something nice without him having something in return, he wasn't the guy for me.

Sorry :(. At least you figured it out sooner than later, though!

I think that men should not be wearing an engagement ring, but I plan on buying BF a watch or something nice when we get engaged or as a wedding gift as kind of a return present (though it is definitely not required).

Yeah am glad I found out sooner rather than later, although in saying that, it took me another 6 years to actually break off the relationship completly haha, the breaking of the engagement was the simple part hehe

Actually, when I got engaged my fiance proclaimed that it was only fair that he got something too. He wanted a suit, as he didn't have one. Thankfully he wanted a casual summer suit, so it wasn't as expensive as a ring!

Why not get him a Claddagh ring for an engagement ring? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claddagh_ring

The ring worn on the left hand with the heart facing outward shows the wearer is engaged; turned inward indicates the wearer is married.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claddagh_ring#cite_note-Murphy-0

They are traditionally used as wedding rings but it would make a cool engagment ring as it's very different from a plain band.

Wow, they look like wedding bands to me. Perhaps if he wore it on a different finger...?

I also like the watch idea for a men's engagement gift, too.

But hey, if that is what the guy wants, then it is what it is. It really depends on the guy's taste, so if he wants one, he should perhaps give you an idea what he's looking for. Otherwise, I like the idea of a simple band, with maybe one tiny diamond in it, or a platinum or white gold, with yellow gold stripe.
