The thing with Eminem though is he pretty much admitted through this rap that he was doing it as a way to try and stay relevant:

He has also said that a lot of his rap is very tongue in cheek. Plus he has OCD so he says to rap the thoughts out of his head helps him a lot.
He goes over the top sometimes, but I think he is genuinely a really good guy, unlike many rappers.

Which to me is just sad because he's talented. Just because he does something nice for a fan doesn't make him a good guy. If Chris Brown sang about rape or beat up a blow up doll that resembled his ex on stage he would get crucified. Em's wife (I know she's not innocent either) has talked about how toxic their relationship was and how she wanted to commit suicide. Idk if he ever physically hit her and I wouldn't be surprised if he did but emotional abuse is just as bad as physical. A lot of rap songs are misogynistic but rapping about murdering your wife/mom or raping Iggy is just crossing the line. It's gross how people give him a pass because he has issues. Perhaps if TMZ was around when he first came out and aired his dirty laundry people wouldn't look the other way

I agree, and no one said that. Eminem has done other great things besides visiting a fan in the hospital who was dying of cancer.
Yeah, because Chris Brown has a history of beating women and being violent. I'm not really sure why you're bringing this up. If Eminem were caught beating a woman, I'm sure he would get the same treatment.
I agree, totally. I was abused by my biological family and picked up some of their abusive behavior and traits. I wouldn't be surprised if Eminem did, too.
Do you have any idea how much Eminem was abused by his mother? Eminem channeled all of his anger into his music, instead of violence.
And with the Iggy thing, he pretty much admitted that he was doing it to stay relevant (because raps like that got him attention/press in the past) and that he was out of line and in the wrong.
People don't give him a "pass" IMO. I like Eminem because he's a human being who went through a lot, and came out the other end as a better person. He could have stayed on drugs, he could have been a terrible parent to his daughter the way his mother was to him. He seemed to do a great job parenting his daughter. She graduated high school and is now going to college.
People make mistakes, but Eminem owns up to his mistakes, seems to have evolved drastically as a person, actually has empathy, and that's all I could ever really ask for in another human being.
How much has he really evolved and changed if he sticks to doing the same offensive schtick for attention. The Iggy thing was just last year I think in the same rap he said he wanted to punch Lana del Ray. Someone did refer to him as a "genuinely good guy" though look throughout the thread it's said multiple times that to me is giving him a pass. Good guys don't rap about abusing women turn around and refer it as a playful song. People on this site attack the Kardashian's for their desperate attention seeking ways but maybe one or two people have criticized his lyrics in 8 pages.
He's 42 yrs old and too damn old to be pulling that bs. I compared him to Chris Brown because both were involved in abusive relationships. One was emotional at the very least.... and the other was physical. He can channel his anger and put it into his songs all he wants but to put out for everyone to hear ...no thanks no one but him benefits from a song like that.

I believe he is rapping about violence for the shock factor and entertainment. I'm not saying that it's right. Obviously his daughter has done well, you don't hear anything crazy about her and also the daughter he adopted.
He's evolved a lot… like I said. Stop doing drugs, was a good father to his daughter… he even stopped the raps about drugs and killing his mom/girlfriend. I would totally agree with you, but his last couple of freestyles show that he really feels bad about it. He is really talented, and I really hope to see more from him that's not this misogynistic BS.
Well, to be fair this is one thread. There are a lot of people who agree with your opinion, they're just not here. I'm a relatively new user here and if I were here when he said that about Lana del Rey or Iggy I would have been right here with you saying how wrong it was.
At the "genuinely good guy" thing… I think he is. His actions show he is much more than his words/songs.
And the Kardashian thing… women are just going to get more criticism than men IMO. I think a lot of the reason why Eminem has said those things about women is because it has been acceptable. I mean look at how much has changed in the past 16 years or so that he's been famous. It was much more acceptable to be homophobic/transphobic back then, and even misogynistic than it is now. I think it's a good sign that people like you and others are calling Eminem out because that type of rhetoric is no longer acceptable.
That's not comparable at all IMO. Chris Brown actually beat Rihanna. Did Eminem beat Kim? Maybe… but I don't think so. Where are you getting this impression? From his songs?
The way I see it… is a song is a form of artistic expression. If someone writes a song about something, it doesn't ring true that they're actually that person in real life. As a woman, is it kind of offensive to me for someone to write a song about beating/killing a woman? Yes, but I see it as more of a form of artistic expression. I'd much rather someone write a song about doing that than actually do it.
No one benefits? It doesn't really matter IMO. If someone is truly mentally unstable where they want to beat a woman, or do whatever, they're going to do it, and it doesn't matter if they listen to an Eminem song. People will blame artists as a scapegoat for their problems, when it's clear at their core, they have deeper issues. I mean that guy blamed The Catcher in the Rye for the reason why he shot John Lennon. Really?
