I’m making a mental note if I ever buy a gemstone to tag @BigAkoya
i personally cannot see the difference, but I trust her taste, knowledge, and discernment
i like the oval you chose better than the rectangle you chose, but I agree with @A bottle of Red about the dream stone
I’m tagging @TraceySH bc she has a collection of blingy engagement diamonds and also posted about lab produced versus mined. come to think of it, I believe @haute okole also knows about these things. If I were to buy an e ring today, I’m almost tempted to get something like the Hermes ring with pave, that looks like the outline of croc scales. . . I know, apologies, not helpful.

ETA: there’s a shape that’s like an emerald cut with rounded corners. Not sure if it has more brilliance. Here’s the shape albeit in a different type of stone (im not suggesting this stone, just the shape. https://www.1stdibs.com/jewelry/rin...angular-cushion-loose-gemstone/id-j_11536112/

Assume you're going with a platinum or white gold setting from your original post? One thing to note, if you go with rose or yellow gold, assuming it is to your taste, you can go lower on colour and put that budget towards a larger stone.

I’ll leave it to the diamond experts (i am not one of them) but I think it’s possible to get a shallow stone with more surface area. I also think it’s possible to get the stone set such that it maximizes light. . .
I'm no expert... But that is something I have done. I have a marquise which faces up HUGE, low colour (set in rose gold) and spread cut which was very affordable. Shrinkage is a real thing.

Both are beautiful! I think that the emerald cut is stunning on you (and just in general-- my grandmother's engagement ring was an emerald cut diamond, so I may be a bit biased :)) I don't think you could go wrong with either. Best wishes!

My engagement ring is an emerald cut. At the time when DH and I were shopping for my ring, we also considered an oval. In the end, I went with what my heart told me. The moment I tried on the emerald cut, I knew it was the one. Just recently, my DH got me a three stone oval ring for our anniversary to represent our family of three. I love both of them but if I had to choose again, I would still have chosen my emerald cut. My advice is to not focus too much on the size and more on what you love. My engagement ring is my forever ring. I still love it after 10 years of wearing it every day!

I think with your hand type and fingers, you could consider mounting either stone East West.
You'll get more coverage and it will proportionally suit your hand better. Your hand has substance and the rings in North South don't, but put that stone on the side, and suddenly you get more coverage!

Congratulations! FWIW, I prefer the emerald on you, but go for what you love!
