Try them on! I wanted an emerald cut, but when we went shopping I found it didn't have the sparkle I wanted, and ended up going with a round instead. You are going to be wearing it for a long time so make sure you get exactly what you want.

Definitely try them on first - even at a different store, or with CZs at Macy's. I thought I was a princess cut girl, with round being a close second, until I started trying on different shapes and carat weights, looking at them on my hand, and at how they sparkled. I ended up with an emerald cut - it wasn't even a close decision for me!

Thanks everyone for your valuable advice. I went to take a look and try both cuts on yesterday and that experience brought me towards the emerald cut. I loved the sparkle that the oval has but the simplicity and the beauty of the emerald cut blew me away. It was definitely worth the trip to try those two on and you guys are definitely right that your heart will always lead the way. :yahoo:

I'm so glad you went to try them on! I just went through a similar "struggle" (rb vs emerald). Trying them on really helped. I agree that it's hard to pick, since the are both so different and so beautiful!! I posted a proll a few months ago & the majority voted for rb. Lots of comments noted that an emerald only looks good when over 2 carats. I had tiffany's bring in 3 rb's and 3 emerald cuts in the same sizes. As soon as I saw the emeralds I know I was in love!! I ended up with a 1.62 carat emerald. It actually looked bigger than the round. The ec gets beautiful flashes of light & receives many complements. Good luck with your final decision, can't wait to see pics!

What size is the stone? If under 1.5, I think I would go with an oval cut. I love emerald cuts but they do face up smaller.

agreed. emerald cut stones are known to look smaller than they really are. my original e-ring is an emerald cut and even though it's beautiful, it looks tiny in comparison to the specs.

also with emerald cut stones is because of the lack of facets, you see every single flaw—the flaws are easily noticeable because of this, and with other stones, (especially the oval) the facets really help hide the flaws more.

something to consider while you're looking and trying on.

The diamond that we are looking at is about a 2.5 carat. Also, it is an E VVS2. We are waiting to see it in person since we know that we can't just base the diamond according to it's characteristics. Hopefully, it's a beautiful one. ;)
