I just went and pulled it out of the closet to check the details. The upper part of the handles is very dark, and the rest has a good color, but I did notice that three of the four leather sections where the handle is attached to the mono have some sort of stain. Where those came from, I don't know. Couldn't help but notice the date code, and that's March of 1990. The mono is in GREAT shape, but I don't know if I could even get $75 for it now with those stains. Oh well.

You probably could, why don't you post pictures and I bet there are a lot of Vuitton lovers (and sellers) that could chime in on it !

Ammietwist - I think we have twin speedys!!! The dage code on mine is FH0930 and I also have stains on 3 of the 4 leather sections! ha ha ha :laugh:!!

Ah I see, that would make this year it's 16th year in existence. I was asking just cause I've seen some LVs that people have for 4 years or so and the patina is just honey coloured and if it's not exposed to sunlight and heat at all, the color should be light still. 16 years is 4 times 4 years though. LOL. Can you post a pic?

Speedys go for good money on Ebay, even with dark handles. You could put that money into a new Speedy or that Hermes scarf :D

As far as replacing the hands, it costs $10 per triangle thingy ($40) and then $60+/- for each rolled handle. It would be about $160 to replace both handles on your Speedy. While we're on the subject, the strap handles (think Bedford, Houston, Piano, Mezzo, etc.) are MUCH cheaper to replace, maybe $60?
