Dyeing my Shearling / Sheepskin Coat

@papertiger i used to have my leather jackets and shearling coats bespoke from Alan Sprools at the General Leather Company in Chiltern Street, who definitely would have been able to help-sadly he and his partner Peter have now retired and the company is now Cromwell Leathers-I don’t think that they have the same sort of expertise and are just trading on the back of GLC’s reputation ..

I hope that you’ve sorted this out successfully!

Gorgeous color of shearling! Just needs a little tlc from You or a fur specialist, which it sounds like you are doing. I would hesitate to dye it. I had a black shearling and had to return it because the dye had not set on the skin side. Thus it would leave me and my hands dirty from black dye. I would have black flecks that would come off on my face. The store indicated this was a defect where the black dye did not set and was happy to process my return. The head of store told me that sometimes black is one of the dyes that is difficult to set and this can happen if not done properly. They were gracious about it. Good luck with your beautiful shearling. I’m sure this patina gives it character and shows how well loved it is by you.
