Does the store say that the price includes customs and fees? If not, you may (likely) get charged customs fees when it arrives. DHL definitely collects them, as does FedEx. Many stores include them in the price of the item. I only buy from stores that include such fees in the price. If not, and you pay the fees and then decide to return the item, it is very complicated vis-a-vis getting customs charges returned. I gave up on the one thing I returned in those circumstances and chalked it up to a learning experience.
this really helps. the store doesnt say the price includes customs n fees. thank u so much. so helpful n kind of u.

Hi there, I purchased a Chanel tweed bag from Vestaire where they charged me custom duty already. However, my package shows being held at custom where they are asking additional information on fabric composition and manufacturer info (see picture). Have you encountered this and how did you respond or handle this situation? Many Thanks!!!

Yes this causes some delays. Just fill out the best that you can. Material: just do goggle search on Chanel tweed material. Manufacturing: made in France.... if ur answers are deemed not enough, someone from DHL will call or email you. You have to declare honestly. And also be ready to pay more couple hundreds for it to be released.

Has anyone here purchased a bag online from a reseller and had it shipped from UK to US? From this thread it looks like custom duty will be 0% on the first $800, 3% on the next $1000 and 6.5% on the remaining, but the reseller (Global Luxury Closet) said none of her US customers have paid custom duty before.

What you laid out is correct. My guess is she is either lying (hopefully not), not aware bc the buyers haven’t told her, or everyone has gotten lucky. One thing I have found is things shipped with the National mail (ie. Royal Mail and then USPS) often gets lucky and no duty is charged. UPS, FedEx, DHL always get charged so if shipped via that method you most definitely will have to pay the import duties

She could declare it as a gift in which case there is no custom duty to my knowledge.

She can under declare the parcel .. for US under 800$ and mark as gift so no Custom is charged .. but as far as i know if your parcel is caught due to random check will be asked to pay custom duty + penalty !

Yep and having looked at her Instagram page my guess she prob don’t claim tax

Yep and my guess is although she does this as a business and not a one off, she probably is doing it under the table and not declaring it as income in the UK and due to this marking it as a gift

Hi all,

I am travelling to Dubai from London. Can I get VAT off if I purchase an item in store but ask the store to ship it to an address in Dubai?
Does anyone have any experience or idea about this?

Hi there:

I am not sure if I am understanding the 2nd part of ur question correctly (ask the store to ship it to an address in Dubai). But yes you can get ur vat refund at the airport when you leave Dubai (you need to tell the store u will do vat refund; the receipt needs to be under the same name that is on ur passport). U can also do this vat refund thing at malls (they have an atm like thing; i think u will need ur boarding pass). I got my vat refund from few things i bought in Dubai in Feb. for 1 of 2 fendi bags i could not because of the receipts was under my husband's name. So u do need to make sure at the store u buy that they get the name in the receipt correct. Hope this helps.

Does anyone have experience shipping bags from Singapore to the US (California)? My friend has bought me a bag in SG (priced a little under $2k, inclusive of local GST), and I'm really confused what the best way to ship and declare it is.
There appears to be special rate of 0% for imports from Singapore, but the bag is made in Italy (which I think I'm supposed to list as "country of origin"). So is the tax calculated at SG or IT level? Is it best to declare as gift ($100 tax free limit?) or sale ($800 tax free limit?)? I also hear it may be best to ship via regular mail vs UPS/Fedex/DHL to avoid duty charge?
So confused, any insight would be greatly appreciated.
