Does This Bag Make Me Look Fat?

I thought the same until I saw a BV Maxi Venata on someone a couple of weeks ago at a cultural centre, some big bags can just make someone look even bigger. Stiff, flatish, and obscuring the narrowest part of her (which ever way she turned) it did her no favours, and she wasn't big, just a generous hourglass. If she had had a soft undulating H Double Sens in a contrasting colour or any drapey shoulder bag it would have worked, as would a neat 1950s type handbag so her waist could be seen.

In case anyone finds it odd why I was scrutinising about how this poor woman :p I was more fascinated about the bag as I've had the Maxi Veneta on mind for years (from the time they looked a reasonable price, now I might as well by a DS for the same purpose). I just (still) can't make up my mind :thinkin:

I am also warming up to DS. The only thing about it is there is no additional compartment. My SA recommended using a insert. I am not generally a bag insert person so I haven't decided yet.

 I think nearly everyone uses an insert for that reason, and even more because the 'inside' needs to be as fresh and clean as the outside preference. At the end of the day it's a shopper and I do already have my fair share, but then they are so useful :graucho:. My problem has been that so far I've only liked a single colour in every cw and not both (I mean who chose white to go with canopee :-s ?)

If someone made really lovely, quality bag inserts they would make a killing, hint, hint anyone? :D

Very interesting topic! I think I have a few, reasons why I stay away from certain bags (I hope nothing said here is offensive to anyone, just to share :))

1 - All big bags should have good strap length and size. Strap too short will make bag look big. Strap too unstructured, thick and/or wide would make bag look big. For bigger women, the bag would look nicer if it sits lower to balance out upper body.

2 - Small bags doesn't necessarily make you look fat / big. A good east-west small bag can make you look tall and slim.

3 - Long straps that are really long (bag sits below hip) can make you look younger. For some (like me) who are not too tall, this is not necessarily a good thing as most bags make us look like teenagers. I try to avoid anything below the hip.

In recent years, the rule of thumb has been large bags make someone look thinner but shorter and small bags make someone look taller but larger.

However, wearing a big black hobo whilst wearing more black may also actually morph someone into a large black blob whilst a lady wearing a neat structured bag of a small to medium size in a contrasting colour draws the eye away from the person and to the bag

:goodpost:: excellent observation PT - I think the combination of the wrong bag and the wrong coat can make someone look enormous... I've made that mistake and very careful now about the size of my bags...practically psychotic about the size and shape of the bags i carry... After all I do all this yoga, I don't want to undo the good work with wardrobe malfunctions.

I've never been one to follow the rules of clothing, purses or accessories. I go with how I look and feel when wearing them. If it looks good on me and makes me feel good...to hell with the rules [emoji4]

After all these years - still oh so true...

I've never paid attention to what size a bag is compared to my size, I mostly just want to carry bags that can fit the amount of stuff I need to bring. Then again I am of average height, I can see how if you're really short or tall you might want to pay extra attention to where a cross body or shoulder bag hits you, especially if it doesn't have an adjustable strap.

I am 153cm height, when I was carrying my Balenciaga metal plate pink city( with long strap) cross body, it looks like I was carrying my gym bag to gym in a bad way. Even though the bag is so beautiful and I dressed up presentable. We just don't go together, nuh!!
