Does Chanel really make their items in France/Italy

Do by chance have a source for any of this? Thank you!

About the mother-of-pearl buttons.... if a garment uses mother-of-pearl buttons, Net-a-Porter/Mr Porter would disclose their origin in the details section. Like this Cucinelli dress's mother of pearl button coming from Indonesia:

I've seen some Gucci shirts on Net-a-Porter having MOP buttons from Vietnam or Australia. They do it less often these days though.
Kering's EP&L discloses the countries that are impacted by their supply chain and have a MOP section:

India embroidery industry, NYT expose, there are more sources that disclosed either the garment has been transported for finishing, or components are embroidered and brought to France/Italy for assembly:

Thanks for the reply! Just really makes me think - the places you have mentioned “Vietnam, Indonesia, Cambodia,” are the ones with poor infrastructure for industries and operate under bad working conditions.

really hope Chanel’s business doesnot support these shady factories.

Do you buy clothes? Or accessories? Of ANY brand? Then some of it will be from those countries that u want to avoid because as long as it’s cheaper to produce there than in other countries, brands will do it.

this does not change the surpreme quality of Chanel (or gucci, or dior...) items. A specific part of an item has to be made IN the country it says “made in”, that’s a law. It can’t just be packaged in the country or designed in the country. So yes, chanel items are made in france (if they say so on the stamp), but it may be that a specific part or finish of an item (embroidery or let’s say the laces of a shoe) were produced elsewhere.

to me, it doesn’t Change a thing because that’s how any brand works UNLESS it says “100% made in..”. And even then I guess we can never be sure

Are Chanel SLGs ever Made in France? Specifically I am noticing that the 4-ring key cases are always Made in Italy; is this true? Can anyone confirm?

Much thanks in advance ❤️

Based on my own research, SLGs are typically made in Italy or Spain. Not sure if this would apply to really old, vintage pieces; but as far as I know, Italy and Spain.

Bags = France & Italy
SLGs = Italy & Spain

❤️

I understand LV when they think made in france is far superior than made in USA. But in chanel? Italian made leather bags are known to be of best quality. Italian leathers are well known and could be pricey too. So imo whether its made in france or italy does not matter. Even spain is good too. As long as its not china im fine…lol… is there any luxury bags that are made in china though?

Yes! Quite a few brands make their bags/products in other locations!

Yes, by all means avoid buying stuff made in poor countries because the working condition is poor. After all, it's best factories are closed down, workers unemployed and become even more poor and destitute, especially women, which makes up the largest proportion of workers in the garment, leather, footwear industries. Having no job, further relying on men in a muslim patriarchal society, is undoubtedly better for them. :tup:
