Does buying everything on your wish list before the price increase ruin the fun?

It depends.

Yes: if I like a piece and any further PI on the piece will not justify the purchase, then I would definitely get it prior to PI. If I end up getting it before the ‘allotted time’, then I would rearrange the priority of other pieces on my wish list.

No: If I am still thinking about a piece and the price won’t go up much, then I would wait.

I generally don't like being rushed into making purchases, especially with looming price increases. With a lot of my big purchases, I like them to be tied to a significant event or holiday, not just a Tuesday afternoon.

I also like to space out my purchases to have a good amount of time to enjoy and savour each piece before the next acquisition. I don't like treating them as everyday buys.

But at the same time, I am pragmatic enough to know that if I know for a fact I want a particular piece, and I can afford it now, it's best for me to get it before any confirmed PI. It also makes a difference whether the item is readily available, or as it is frequently the case nowadays, it is a very limited piece, and it's a case of having to pull the trigger whenever it is presented. What I then do, is either put the item away only to be unboxed at the intended milestone time, OR, which happens more often than I care to admit, I reverse-engineer an event to justify that particular purchase to be able to start using the item... But that's also because I have the self-control of a hyper-active toddler at the best of times.

I ended up getting my VCA 5-motif hammered bracelet, and Chanel mini flap two months in advance of my birthday just because the bracelet is a unicorn, and takes ages to appear, and with the mini flap, getting one in black is surprisingly difficult, and I was bumped up the list because of my friend who is a VIC. So, I shoehorned the two purchases as a Ramadan and Eid present respectively. LOL.

I ended up getting three new items from VCA and Goyard for my birthday, but those are safely stowed away until the big day. Some self-discipline can be cultivated I guess!

But with my Cartier Mini Panthere, as it was easy enough to secure with advance notice, I paid a deposit for it upfront, and waited to collect for Christmas 2024.

There was one more VCA item I wanted, but I swallowed the PI and decided that will be my Christmas 2025 gift to myself. Fingers crossed I can stay strong on that!

I love your reply and completely agree! I purchased the small YG JUC with diamonds bracelet a day before the PI and will keep it stowed away until Christmas. That item did increase by $295 so I am happy I pulled the trigger.

I could never buy everything on my wishlist at one time to avoid a relatively minimal price increase!
I guess if we knew we would be making a purchase soon and we knew there would be a significant increase, we may buy a little early, but Cartier's increases are usually pretty small - I don't buy Cartier watches.
Otherwise no, no panic buying here!

UPDATE…
I appreciate when an OP shares what they decided to do.
I “added to cart” and ordered the Small JUC w/diamonds YG bracelet. It will be tucked away until Christmas. The reason I went for it is because:
1. The cost of $5,050 usd is already very high for a hollow gold bracelet. I’m so in love with it and have tried it on many times in the boutique (photo attached)… but I had a now or never sinking feeling because I’m not sure I want it if the price goes up too much.
2. I found out TODAY that I am getting cash for gold! My sister, who is a professional jeweler, suggested I go through my collection of gold jewelry (non luxury brands) and she could get me a price for melting it. I decided to let go of pieces I outgrew or would never wear.

Thank you all so much for your insights. I really agree it does not make sense to rush rush rush to buy now. But pulling the trigger early on a piece you have admired and really want, is often justified.View attachment 6170619
Am so happy for you! And for sharing all of your thought processes :) congrats! It’s lovely

Well, I just did another purchase because the item I had on my list was due to increase $900. That's enough to encourage me to buy now vs. wait months till a "more appropriate time" (caveat: no financial hurdles to jump through to buy now vs. later).

The PI also caused me to re-evaluate another piece on my list, and I decided that even though the PI was less than the above item, it made me realize the juice wasn't worth the squeeze for that item, so to speak.

I so admire your calm and realizing the price increases are not usually major. I am new to this wonderful Cartier community. Besides my trinity ring from 2007, I did not have any other Cartier pieces. Now there is a classic love bracelet at the boutique waiting for hubbie and me for our anniversary 5/29 and a sm w/ diamonds JUC bracelet tucked away in my closet until Christmas. I literally sold my never used gold jewelry to financially justify these purchase! I’m basically unhinged.. yet I am so excited that these babies will be on my wrist soon.
Next PI I hope to keep it together and adopt your level headed attitude.

Have a beautiful weekend.

It's so fun, enjoy!!

I might feel more compelled if I hadn't recently tracked the last so many years increases! My wishlist is big however, so it'll be slow and deliberate in picking new items. DH typically picks from my extensive list lol
Cartier has been very moderate in increasing, sometimes prices have even decreased!

Thank you! I always love your perspective on things. I am now only days away from picking up my anniversary classic love bracelet. I’m looking forward to posting photos in the Cartier in Action thread.
