Does buying everything on your wish list before the price increase ruin the fun?

My husband and I placed an order for me for the classic love bracelet in yellow gold, which we will pick up together, at the end of the month, in celebration of our 20th wedding anniversary!

With the price increase coming, it temps me to buy other items on my wish list in a bit of a rush.

My question is if you think it is better to secure the items you love and will one day take home at the best price now or take time to collect each item as a celebration or in remembrance of particular moments in your life? I think my heart says wait and my head says buy now.

Buying anything when I’m not ready generally takes a bit of the love out of the process.
I don’t like feeling rushed or pushed to buy things in general.

This doesn’t mean that when I buy, I intend to buy it for a specific reason such as a birthday or Christmas etc.

I just buy when I’m ready and when I’m in the mood to buy.

Spontaneous purchases are more emotion-related. They generally happen when I’m in a good shopping mood and I love something that I see on the spot. But I’m still happy to buy because it’s what I want to do at that point in time (doesn’t mean I won’t regret it later though lol, but that has lessened over time as I have gotten to know my style better)

Just my 2 cents. The feeling or pressure to buy when a price increase is looming is real though. But from my purchase experience, I know I feel the happiest when I buy what I want without any external pressure or influence.

Congratulations on your 20th wedding anniversary! I got my love bracelet 4 years ago and still love it 😊.

I got my love bracelet for a milestone birthday and a tank watch recently as a wedding gift. Similar to you, I’m itching to get something before the price increase (another watch) but I keep going back and forth about it since I like to get things to commemorate special milestones in life! My partner says to just get it though since he says he always sees that I’m sad after not getting things when they were cheaper 😅

I did recently get a bonus though so… that counts right?

I totally agree with this, which is why even with the pressure that upcoming price increases have, I’m not buying anything.

Yes. Although I’m not about to buy *everything* on my wishlist, I might pull the trigger on a JUC now rather than wait for my bonus later in the year. Waiting for my bonus ties it to accomplishment and makes it feel more special. Maybe I will still wait, haven’t decided yet.
I understand. I am waiting for my bonus at the end of the year as well. As much as I dread the price increases, I do not like purchasing things when I haven’t budgeted for it. It doesn’t feel the same. A purchase made with a bonus feels more special!

Yes and no. I don’t like feeling pressured to buy due to a PI, so I will only buy what I am comfortable with financially, or what I’ve budgeted for and planned to buy that year. I also like to tie big purchases to life milestones, but I also hate giving greedy luxury corporations even more of my hard-earned money! 😂

Not everything can be timed perfectly, though, so if I know there is a looming PI and I had already planned to buy a piece within the next 6-12 months to celebrate a birthday, bonus, etc., I’ll typically go ahead and purchase it to save some money and then hide it in my closet and not let myself use it until said milestone arrives. Then I get to experience some joy from the delayed gratification of reopening it and finally being able to wear it. … not exactly the same thing as waiting to buy it at the time of the milestone, but it’s still fun and I don’t have to regret paying more for it had I waited.

But I won’t buy every single thing on my wishlist due to a PI. … I need something to look forward to, haha! I figure that I will likely be making more money in the future as my career progresses which will help offset PIs, or my wishlist might change, etc.

Yes and no.

If you are the kind of person who needs every occasion commemorated with a gift, of course wait.

I personally would wait in order to be sure. Tastes change and a little extra time to make sure you are
buying the perfect things is worth the incremental difference

If however yu are certain, and neither you nor your DH are sentimental about specific occasions, that’s different :)

ETA: I am assuming that buying your wish list is easily affordable and won’t stress you out, cost or budget wise.

I love this idea of purchasing now but keeping the item tucked away for future unboxing. Very smart.

Great perspective. Honestly, my husband saying yes to the classic love bracelet was a big deal because he does not understand why a bracelet is almost $8K including tax. But he is a good partner and I have never asked for anything like this before.

Most likely my dream stack of love bracelet with SM JUC with diamonds will need to wait and I’ll accept that I will pay more for it at a later point. But damn do I want to add to cart today!

I need some time to bake my decisions and choices and drool over everyone else's pictures before I decide what to get. I had a few items on my wish list: JUC ring, JUC bracelet, santos dumont watch, etc. I went to the store to try everything on. The JUC ring spoke to me the most. I wasn't sure about the JUC bracelet and watch. I don't want to impulse buy the other pieces with the looming PI. At the same time, all the other brands are doing increases. I have been thinking about the bvlgari b.zero ring also. Now I'm debating the clash ring. I'm all over the place. I don't want to buy for the sake of the PI. The shopping and deciding process is half the fun!

Also, spreading out the purchases makes me really enjoy each piece that I get. It gives them each their time to shine as the new piece in the collection. I'm still very much enjoying the JUC ring that I got end of April for my own milestone birthday. As much as the looming PI makes me want to go try on the clash and the b.zero, I don't need the other pieces right now. Need is a very strong word  I will wait for another milestone or commemorative event to buy the next piece

congrats on your new love and on your wedding anniversary 🥰

UPDATE…
I appreciate when an OP shares what they decided to do.
I “added to cart” and ordered the Small JUC w/diamonds YG bracelet. It will be tucked away until Christmas. The reason I went for it is because:
1. The cost of $5,050 usd is already very high for a hollow gold bracelet. I’m so in love with it and have tried it on many times in the boutique (photo attached)… but I had a now or never sinking feeling because I’m not sure I want it if the price goes up too much.
2. I found out TODAY that I am getting cash for gold! My sister, who is a professional jeweler, suggested I go through my collection of gold jewelry (non luxury brands) and she could get me a price for melting it. I decided to let go of pieces I outgrew or would never wear.

Thank you all so much for your insights. I really agree it does not make sense to rush rush rush to buy now. But pulling the trigger early on a piece you have admired and really want, is often justified.IMG_1292.webp
