Does anyone INSURE their handbags?

I just asked my agent could I insure them as a collector's item so that if they were to ever get lost or stolen I wouldn't have to pay the deductable and unfortunately I could not insure them as a collector's item. However, they will still be covered under my regular renter's insurance policy. But I have taken pictures of all my handbags and have the reciepts to verify that I own them just in case.

I was advised to insure my designer bags under my jewelry/luxury rider because my regular policy would not cover a "purse" (I was appalled they would call it that! :yucky:) to the extent that I would expect to be reimbursed! My agent probably thinks I am crazy because every time I buy a new bag I email them a picture and copy of the receipt and they up my coverage. LOL - you should have heard her voice when she got a look at my LV Mancrazy!

I hadnt really thought about insurance but being a uni and living in a student house i think i definitely need to look into it. Are there any insurance companies that just insure luxury goods? As i dont have a house or anything like that to insure (in the UK). Thanks :D

As a student, you should be able to take out a "renter's policy". I have those for my college student-daughters who live off campus. Just be sure to specifically ask the agent if you need to add additional "ITEMIZED" coverage for the handbags or if they would be covered under the general policy. The laws/rules will vary by state and by ins co. Don't like one answer, try another company. And since you are in student housing, you might inquire at the univ if they sell coverage.

My house got robbed this time last year, funnily enough they walked straight past all the bags and lifted jewelry, tv, computer, etc, etc. When the insurance assessor called I asked the same question, if my bags would be covered, I was told that it will be dependent on your policy, luckily mine covers anything up to individual value of £1500, items above this must have an additional cover!!:yes:

I am sorry your house was robbed. We had a few break-ins, too, not to the main house, our garage and rentals being remodeled. They (or he or she) took tools. They seems to like tools and electrics around here. We decided not to use our insurance in those cases because if we do the monthly payment would go up. I have a feeling that most thieves are not very stylish and they can't tell difference between nice bags and cheap plastic ones.

Thanks, yes no taste, lol!! Unfortunately I had to claim from the house insurance, they broke 2 windows getting in and out again and completely ransacked the place, (unfortunately they still havent been caught, although they did leave plenty of forensic evidence, one of them cut themselves on the window on their way into the house). The insurance premium didnt go up too much thankfully, but at least I now know for certain that all valuable items are covered!!

the main reason i decided to get renter's insurance for my apt was for my handbags :) i got a general policy with liberty mutual and it was a fair premium (considering how much more my bags are worth)

Imagine a pipe brakes and the apt gets flooded, when we are on vacation, and my bags and shoes are destroyed... So we've insured everything we care about (from fire, earthquake, floods and thieves) to be on the safe side.
