I asked my ins agent this question and she laughed and said "what did you buy?". They aren't THAT expensive, I suppose. And I suppose they would be covered under a standard homeowners policy if there was a major catastrophe that wiped out one's entire household. But, I am curious if anyone insures them separately, like jewelry, in case of theft or other individual loss??

This is so funny....I was wondering the same thing while I was eating dinner just now, and I was going to use the search to see if this question had ever been asked before. It doesn't seem like a bad idea, considering how much could be lost in case of a house fire or a flood.....

That's something I've thought of too -- could add up to a small fortune. I don't think your homeowners policy will cover it unless it is added on, and there will most likely be an additional coverage fee. The insurance companies probably don't expect that most homeowners have closets full of bags like we do...........LOL

I would assume that in case of fire or flood in which all contents were destroyed, that BAGS would just be a part of the "general contents" loss. BUT..in YOUR case LOVEPINK, you have a FEW MORE than most folks, so you definitely might need some additional coverage!
But if you have a bag that retails for $2000, and it's stolen, lost, damaged, whatever... should they be separtely insured?
I know our ins co wants us to separately insure "electronics"... computer equip, fancy AV equip, etc... coin etc collections, and of course jewelry. I guess they never thought of HANDBAGS! LOL

I finally got renter's insurance and part of the reason was all my bags and I confirmed with my agent that they would be covered. I have pictures of everyone of them and all my receipts just as a backup.

My bags aren't covered under house insurance, but the ones I'm traveling with will be covered under my travel insurance when I go overseas. :p

The main issue with insuring bags is the depreciation - how do you prove to the insurance companies that designer bags retain their value over years? I've always wondered that.

I don't have that many bags (7 designer bags), but the overall value is rather high. I have given this some thought lately, perhaps I should try to find out if I can insure them, not only for theft but also for damage that happens outside the house. I do always bring my bags to my auntie's house when I go on holiday, so they can't get stolen when some thieve breaks into the house while I'm away.

My insurance covers all of my items including my bags but you do need pics serial numbers and reciepts to prove you did have them. Its a very good idea to have them insured! On (It takes a theaf) that guy always goes after the handbags if they have them. Easy to resell online and easy to carry and get out of the house and to make it worse they will run around packing your purse full of your jewelry or more purses!~!!
