Does anyone ever have serious regrets after buying a new bag? I own four luxury bags and I love them all so much. I can afford on average one a year. However, I feel buyer’s remorse that I either didn’t research each purchase enough, should’ve bought something different, etc. Two of my bags were decided upon in store. I had originally gone in looking to purchase one thing, but with the help of the SA (and my MIL) I ended up with something completely different. My other two were contemplated for months, and I STILL feel like I made the wrong decision! The thing is, I know I would feel the exact same way if I had purchased my other choices or even if I hadn’t bought these bags at all!

Does anyone else ever feel this way?

Definitely! I don't have luxe bags, but I have luxe SLGs and contemporary designer bags (<$150 each). Still, when I look over at my items, sometimes I regret them. Why did I spend so much on a bag/SLG when I could've gotten something similar (probably even similar quality) for much less?

Or, I sometimes wish I only had one or two bags, to simplify my life and make it easier to just keep everything in one place.

I do sometimes sell bags. I only ever sell bags to recoup what I paid (never take a loss), but I also never purchase items for full price, so this may be harder for you. Right now, I'm sitting on a Fossil bag that I paid $70 for that I probably won't be able to sell for what I paid, unfortunately.

If you really regret you bags, you could probably sell them! Not sure of what brands, but you might even be able to get back what you paid if they're hard to find LV or Chanel styles.

But, if you don't want to sell, I think it's important to figure out why you feel that way. Is there some design element of the bag bothering you? Is it not functional? Can you buy something (like an additional strap, an organizer) to make it more functional? Or, is it wearing badly? Can you do something to prevent the wear?

I think it’s definitely the price tag, now that I’m thinking about it. I never felt this way about Coach or Tory Burch. I know I’m not going to own multiple black luxe bags or multiple LV monogram bags, so when I buy, I know that’s pretty much it. Atleast for the next 20+ years

There are a lot of people who only keep a couple bags, but they cycle through. So, they'll buy a bag, resell it, use that money to invest in a new bag. They obviously lose money, but many consider that money kind of a "fair price" for the time they were able to use the bag!

I typically don't have buyers remorse because I tend to obsess over things before buying them, try them out endlessly in store, look up reviews and blogs on that specific item, etc. I'll always walk away first before buying something (with very few exceptions). I always dump out everything in my current bag to put in the bag I'm considering to see how it wears/look and whether it's still comfortable.

I have had more instances of regretting NOT buying something than buying it. So I'm in a habit of making the purchase, holding onto it for a few days but not removing the tags and seeing how I feel once it's at home and I don't feel under any pressure to get it. I consider what circumstances I can wear it under, what outfits it goes with, whether the cost per wear is to my advantage, and if it suits my lifestyle.

I also don't feel bad returning things that don't make the cut.

That is definitely something I should start considering!! I’m kind of new to this, but I think I am learning. My latest purchase hasn’t come in yet but I’ve reviewed it for several weeks now.

I used to, not as much anymore. I think I had buyer's remorse after the first few luxury bags I bought because I was buying bags for the style I wanted to have, and not necessarily the style I did have. Over time, you also learn what style of bags work best for you, and your style can also change as your life changes. For example, my first few luxury bags were all totes, just because I use to wear a lot of totes early on in my career. Now I prefer flap bags that I can wear on my shoulder or cross-body, and I carry a separate laptop bag.

Now, even though I have a lot of flap bags, I still gravitate towards flap bags as I know I'll get the most use of them.

The other thing I have buyer's remorse about is when I settle. For example, the Chanel classic Jumbo was my HG bag, but it was so expensive and I never thought in my life that I would be able to own one, so I got the YSL Large Kate bag instead. I used that bag so much, and I really loved it at the time, but my heart would always still think of the Chanel. I ended up getting the Chanel jumbo later as a birthday gift from my mom and my aunt, so now the YSL sits unused. I still really love that bag for how carefree it is, but overall I feel like I could have spent my money more wisely.

The purchases I have made that I regret have all been consignment/used purchases, or new purchases online without trying on in store. Never again. Almost all of those regrets are sitting in consignment right now. Always try in store once, take pics, look at pics at home (without SA pressure), and if my heart still sings for it, buy it.

The purchases that I love I have realized are ones that I have bought new and mulled over for a long time. It helps to analyze on pf about what kind of collection for my wardrobe and lifestyle, and to become familiar with bag style, size, and pocket preference etc.

While I have some expensive regrets, I rationalize it as part of the process of figuring it out.

To the extent to which you are figuring it out regarding bag size and style and pockets etc, that can be easily remedied by experimenting with lower end of bags like Kate spade or coach.

But figuring out your ideal collection I have found to be more expensive because after I’ve bought the bags that I covet so much (higher end brands like LV, Prada, Dior, Gucci), it involves narrowing in on colour and frequency of use for my wardrobe, and less about the actual bag’s faults (style, pocket placement, or what have you).

I don't have buyer's remorse as such over my bags, but after a couple of years, I don't really use them anymore and they kinda just sit there in my wardrobe! This has happened with my Givenchy Antigona and Celine Mini Luggage - both were lovingly used for a good period of time but then I got over using 'bigger bags' and then now they're just in my wardrobe and I haven't attempted to sell them because they're quite worn now and not particularly trendy anymore. I also have the Celine tri-fold which is significantly smaller and lighter, but I'd have to say I haven't used this bag in over a year either. So sometimes I look at these bags, and wish that I didn't have them anymore! haha.

I have alot of buyers remorse. One of the main "problems" I have with luxury goods is FOMO and the buy / sell loop. For example my first LV was a big decision for me I searched and searched and read reviews, watched videos and settled on a Speedy B 25 in DE. I used this bag alot and love it to this day but when I selected the speedy b 25 I was deciding between that and the Alma BB. I still to this day want the Alma BB.

My second purchase was the Mono Neverfull MM. Love the bag its amazing. But now Im lusting after another care free item such as the NF in DE or the On The Go tote.

So in my head I keep thinking should I sell the speedy b 25 to get the alma, then rebuy the speedy b 30 in mono and sell my Mono NF so that I can have a DE or On the Go Tote. While I love LV I do think that it becomes a bit of a blurr to have similar styles of bags in the same canvas or the same bag in different canvases. I know others do this and love it but I want more variety so I am in a constant battle and this causes me alot of stress which is so irrational because at the end of the day they are just bags!
