Left. I am also ambidextrous but I don't take my watch off and am also a creature of habit.

On the left. I literally don't think I could get my right arm to do the correct motion for checking the time!

I think left is thought of as the "right" way as the winder is on the right and therefore accessible whilst wearing the watch.
You'd be hard pushed to fiddle with it if you had it on your right wrist.

Right handed and have been wear watches on my left wrist since young. After I got a jade bangle and was advised to wear it on my left hand, I started wearing it on my right so as not to scratch the watch. Never really got used to it, so I stopped wearing the jade bangle and have my watch back on the left.
