Yes! Because of spinal and neck problems I can't carry hobos, totes and messenger bags - I sold my entire collection of bags. I decided to make the leap to hand held bags with the optional shoulder strap if I needed it and so far it has worked out

I prefer crossbody bags but I've discovered my "style" of bag is continigent upon what I'm doing. Like I never go out of town without a crossbody. I like my hands free to shop, browse or carry things. I also like a crossbody or wristlet on date night. I carry totes to work. I carry my satchels and hobo's everywhere else.

It's fun to hear everybody's take on this! Actually my first love was handheld bags (LV speedy was my first designer bag). I still love the look of handheld bags best, but I can't get away with carrying them very often these days.

It seems counterintuitive - if you have back/shoulder/neck problems people think a hand held bag would pull your arm down and make it hurt worse (even my doctor told me to switch from shoulder to crossbody bags when I had shoulder tendonitis and that only made the pain worse).

But so many people on here (including myself) have had their pain 'cured' by switching to hand held bags that it's obviously a solution in many cases.

I still have a couple of my hobos and every time I carry one even for a day my shoulder pain comes back.

I suppose it would seem counterintuitive, but you have to take into consideration the type of pain a person has and their severity, how big their hand held bag is, how heavy the hand held is and how long they carry their bag. I will count my blessings here because I'm lucky, I use light hand held bags and they have never triggered pain. And in situations where I'm shopping (and let's say, going through a clothes rack) I can use the longer strap for a few minutes so I am hands free.

I always like the bag with a short handle and a long strap so I can hang the bag on my arm and the length of the longstrap dangling before i enter the branded bags syndrome. But after i am crazy about branded bags, i bought the tote or short handle type at the first time. But now lately i bought bags with the type that i like such Chloe Marcie, Alexander Wang, Hermes Herbag, Mulberry Alexa, and etc. And i am so happy with that.... I guess this type of bag will never went wrong or get tired with it :graucho:

I don't have a particular type of favourite bag style.... or.. maybe smaller bags? I guess it's a good thing coz they're usually cheaper. Haha! Anyways, haven't grown out of it yet! The smaller the better :D

I thought I would be a forever satchel girl. Before I didn't mind if there was long strap or none. But lately I've been wanting my satchels to have a long strap option. So yes, maybe my style of bag is evolving.

I like having a variety of styles. I am drawn to satchels that can be carried on the arm or shoulder, but I've bought some shoulder bags (MJ XL Singles) for errands/shopping so my hands are free, crossbody bags (MBMJ Natasha), and I even bought a hobo (Ferragamo) which I am not normally drawn to. I like to match my bag style to my activity, and have options.

I tend to love two styles: the crossbody and the satchel with an optional shoulder strap. I don't see myself getting tired of either of these, but you never know! I used to use tote bags all the time, and I find I'm carrying less these days and not using totes as much.

I can say with much greater certainty that I will never be a handheld-only kind of girl!
