Do you still use bags that are 5 or 10 years old?

The closest thing I have to an 'it' bag is this Botkier, they were pretty popular in their time. It's really small and I put a new strap on it so I can wear it as a crossbody. It probably looks pretty dated but I'll wear it all the time. My daughter thinks its ugly and says it looks like it has boobs. It sorta does.

This bag reminds me of Alexander Wang's. I think its pretty cool :smile1:
Btw, I remember Botkier, what ever happened to that brand? It was popular but it died down as fast as it popped onto the scene.

Great bags, guys. I loooove my "old" bags and I agree 100% that they don't make them like they used to. Correction: they do, if you pay 5x what you used to.

I tend to lean more towards timeless bags, than what's in the cover of Vogue today and gone tomorrow, so I have bags that are up to 15+ years old and look like they could have been bought anytime.

On the same token, there are bags that have had their "moment" and are former "it" bags that I still love, wear and will buy if I see one I like, like the Chloe Bracelet bag. I just got a gorgeous golden one recently.

I guess I like what I like and don't really care whether they're still "in" or not. You'll see me at 102 with my 60 year old Valentino rockstud kitten heels and my 75 year old leopard Fendi Baguette hanging from my walker lol

Anyone else still loves and wears any of their former "it" bags?

I love my Fendi baguette as I like to carry small bags to my kids' sporting events. I also have a Luella Bartley Gisele. I don't wear it, but I can't give it up. Every once and a while, I'll pull it out and wear to church.

I know the feeling about not being able to give up something barely wear anymore!

The fabric of my black microfiber baguette became sticky (the outside, I don't know why) and the hardware got opaque, that's why I haven't used it anymore. I have hopes that some day I'll bead or do something fab on the outside, polish the hardware and bring it back to its former glory :)

Im not sure what happened. I think they were acquired by a different company and started to use different leather. This one must be about 8 years old, still looks new and the leather is unbelievable.

I LOVE all your oldie bags!

Many times, a bag's charm isn't in the way it looks, it's in the feeling the bag evokes in me. Some bags I've had for a long time, some have spent most of their life in someone else's care until they found a new home with me. I do like a crisp, new bag (who doesn't?) but an oldie is always different; I love the scuffs and patina, makes me want to carry the bag - get it involved in my life and not baby it. Continue the bag's story, so to say.

Exactly!!

Of course. I have vintage Coach bags from when Coach was made in New York, and I still carry them. Conversely, I have very little from 5-10 years ago except for a Michael Kors.

I have 3 vintage coach bags from the 1980s & 90s. The quality is of the leather is fantastic and they are very plain, classic bags, so they never look "dated". Not that I would care if they did. I still like stuff that looks early 00s as well :)

I have vintage bags from almost 100 years ago ;)

As for designer bags I bought myself from new I have a large Chloe Bay and a Paddy, Gucci Horse-bit chain bags

Here's a Gucci Ltd Ed colour from mid-00s in Jade with rghw with newer H silk

Beautiful!!

One thing to throw in here. Sometimes with an older handbag, you can update it and it no longer looks dated and tired. I've seen amazing transformations here on TPF.

I'm updating an older bag I have. The leather & interior are like new shape because I never wore it much and the style has come back "in". The issue is the strap looks dated. So I ordered a chain strap from a seller on eBay that a number of TPF'rs have recommended. Once the strap comes in I'll have a great "new" bag.

So if you love an old bag, there are 10,000 ways and reasons to wear it and still be very much on trend.

I have a Chanel and a first generation LV Neverfull that I use more than 5yrs after purchase. And I like my other Chanel bags and Dior tote enough. But other bags - Gucci, Mulberry etc don't keep me entertained as long.
