I have one bag that I barely use. I haven’t used it in three years. For those that buy and sell, how do you decide when to sell? I’ve only sold one other bag. I get worried about regret. But then I think, I haven’t used it in so long, why keep it?

It depends on why you haven't carried it.
I sold off my entire LV collection because they just didn't work for me. We're talking 2 MC Alma's, 3 speedy, a samur, a horiz batignolles and a few others. I just am NOT a hand carry gal. Same for two short shoulder straps and fiddling with closures. Couldn't do it. So I sold them along with my Prada Fairy bag and my AW Rocco's. Yeah it sucked and yes I miss some of them, but live and learn. It took me thousands of dollars to figure out what works for me and more importantly what DOESN'T
If you just don't like the color or style and it's only one bag I wouldn't be in a rush to sell. I have found myself dusting off something that all of a sudden I found myself loving again.

I at least consider selling bags I don’t use. I sold my Trevi years ago b/c it was super heavy and didn’t work for me. I’m thinking of selling my mono speedy and sarah wallet b/c I haven't worn either in years and the mono just isn’t my style anymore. On the other hand I have a classic Chanel flap that I also haven’t worn in years, but am keeping it b/c I think I’ll enjoy the classic look later in life. it just depends I guess

I’ve sold several. I only sell to Fashionphile or Yoogi’s Closet. I don’t care if I fetch less than selling on eBay or by myself. It’s easy, it’s done and it won’t come back to haunt me, stress free has a value to me . If I don’t use the bag and don’t particularly care for it any longer, I sell and it funds a new bag. I’ve never regretted selling.

I also sold my original collection and now have what works for me.

Not to get all Marie Kondo, but does it still spark joy? Lol I used to have a hard time parting with my designer bags, especially because of the price tag and sentiment, but lately I like having a pared down collection of bags I truly love and reach for all the time.

I’ve sold bags on Poshmark and Tradesy, but it makes me sad to lose so much on the seller fees. I recently started using MyMarkit after reading about it on another thread. You get to keep 100% of your sales, so I’m all about it.

I've sold several bags for this very reason, and I used to reckon if I hadn't reached for a bag in six months to a year, it was probably time to consider letting it go. However, I've regretted parting ways with a couple of the bags I've sold, and with the ever-rising prices and often declining quality, I am now reluctant to let anything go. I have my most-used bags and SLGs but I will hang onto the others because I know I can't replace them with something of the same craftsmanship and ultimately if I have regrets, I will end up either having to buy new at a much higher price point for what could quite easily an inferior item, or I'll have to hunt for pre-loved and probably pay more than I did originally for new. After much thought, I'm hanging onto what I have, and in addition I'm being very careful about what I add to my collection in the future.

I totally agree with not selling due to declining quality.

Haven’t sold an LV bag yet… I try to buy pieces that can withstand time so to speak.
And I try to use my bags at least a week per year.

For me, I think I will regret selling because of price and quality.

I think you will always regret what you sell, regardless. Might not be for years afterwards, but I feel as though you'll regret it. I sold some Chanel bags and LV's years ago in the late 90's and I definitely regret it. Especially the LV luggage I had. Back then, the wheelie suitcases were becoming popular and of course more convenient than carrying a Keepall without a strap, so I sold it. I regret that big time. But at the time, I had so many bags and I just felt it was so over the top, that I decided to sell them. The only bags I kept at the time were my Noe and Speedy 40. Which I love and still use till this day.

Thank you to all for some great points! Not sure if it's relevant, but it's an Alma PM in vernis rouge fauviste. I think I don't reach for it b/c its a hand carry bag. I also feel like as the years go by, I have a better understanding of what I really like. My first bag was a Tivoli. And although it had that sentimental "first bag" vibe, I sold it b/c it was just too heavy! I do not regret it at all.

I have to think LOL...... I could use the money to help pay for my recent purchase - the PM in bicolor black - my God I love that bag!!!

Thanks again!!

yes I have. I sometime buy a bag because its popular and I fear missing out and realize it wasn’t right for me. Sometimes my style or bag needs change and it’s no longer functional for me. There has only been a few bags I have regretted selling. I think if you haven’t used the bag in that long its time to sell…to make sure take it out and use it for a few days just to make sure. I only sell to yoogis closet or Couture USA. both are wonderful to work with..

I haven't sell any bags yet. I'm careful buy what I wants and needs so that I don't have to sell and take a loss. I just start collecting LV since 2017, but happy at what I got now.

Why you are not using it? Would you consider using it again and see if you like it before you let it go? If the sell value is too low, I would rather keep it but that is just me.
