Hi All -

So this question was posed in another group and I figured I would ask it here as well. Do you all purchase backups of items you really like? I have heard great things about LV’s repair services so does it even make sense? On the other hand, these items keep getting more expensive does it make sense to buy now rather than having to replace in the future?

For high end designer items no. Backup items if you mean different themes, color and print for the exact same item still a no for me. I prefer to just wait until the item I want to purchase meets all my specifications to purchase.

I was thinking same exact item, print included. For example, having 2 mono key pouches or 2 de mini pochettes in my collection, one for use and the other just in case something happens to it. I was also thinking I could always give them to my daughter in the future (only 2 now) or one of my nieces if I never end up having to use it.

I might if I had a situation like this. Because for you it's never really a waste of money.

I would love to get a back up of one item, but then I find myself always wanting something different because of the constant changing collections. I don't heavily use all of my bags except for one (Pochette Metis). I really want to get a replacement for it at some point, but can't seem to pull the trigger yet. I think it's ok to get a back up bag if it's one you know you will use, and the bag will stay in your collection permanently.

No. I wouldn't want an exact duplicate of the same item. If there is a issue with the first item why wouldn't it be an issue with the second item? LV repairs and replaces defective products I would just go through with this process. I have purchased duplicate same style and color of a hard to find discontinued under garment clothing item.

I don't have backups as I would rather the money went towards something I do not have. If my favorite item(s) had to be replaced, I would just purchase it again or find something comparable. While it could possibly be disappointing to not be able to find it again, it is still just stuff and some brand (LV or otherwise) is bound to have a comparable item!

Very good point. I could definitely put the money to better use and it is just stuff.

Yes, just did this with pocket organizer. Didn’t want the beautiful flowers to get beat up so bought a blue one for regular use and save the flowers for special occasions.View attachment 4860796

This makes more sense to different designs then what I was thinking! Such cute pieces.

I am considering to get back up item for the ones i really enjoy and use everyday. Like my mini pochette, key pouch, PA in mono and nano speedy. I reach for these items everyday and i'm worried it will have wear and tear faster than my other items. So i dont mind having back ups in the same piece and print.

No. That’s not to say I don’t but my favourite items in different prints or leathers but I wouldn’t do the exact same item. And I’m trying to cut down on doubles for myself as well.

It depends on the item but I would probably buy backups of basic straps but not actual bags or SLGs.
I do have the same item in different patterns or fabrics because I like the functionality, design, or shape of it i.e. the usage of it is what makes me want to buy a backup.

All of the time. I have a fairly simple wardrobe and don’t buy a vast variety of things so the key pieces matter and there are some that are signature items. I have done this with bags, accessories, shoes, certain items of clothing—things I consider staples.
