I prefer smooth, lustrous leather, by far. Pebble leather has grown on me, but I am still reluctant to buy pebble leather as frequently as I buy smooth leather items. I adore supple, soft leather  Smooth leather with a natural sheen  I also have some made of saffiano leather, but nope, I simply cannot resist smooth, supple, elegant, buttery leather. I wear my bags but they always look great so you won't really find scratches unless you look meticulously for them. I have so many bags that I alternate a lot. I wear designer bags, independent bags, and very niche bags...I just buy bags I like without thinking about the price. I don't buy bags for the name but for the leather and design  I should probably check my wardrobes and 'unbury' some that I haven't been using for many years, I may have even forgotten that I have them. It happens to me sometimes, so I give them away to people I know will appreciate them or even to charity

I think I have 3 bags in smooth leather. All others are grained leather. Smooth leather feels nice but unless it's well finished, it can get marks and scratches easily and that freaks me out a bit. Grained leather is more robust and I'm not as paranoid about using grained leather bags as I am about the smooth leather bags (before I found out mine are actually durable and can survive my daily life).

I probably won't buy more smooth leather bags. And now that I've said that, just watch me swoon over one any day now. :giggle:

Grained due to my lifestyle. I could be very careless so I need my bag to be as durable as can be. But its nice to own at least one smooth one. I actually like nylon for everyday bag.

I prefer smooth leather because I think it adds an element of polish or clean lines or something like that. I think my personal appearance already brings a lot of carefree elements (long hair with a lot of volume, don't wear much if any makeup) and if I don't add some polished elements I feel like I can just end up full on bohemian which isn't what I'm usually going for.

I can see the appeal of grained leather particularly in that it's harder to see scratches, though. And I do technically have a grained bag, but I think some grains are very fine and evenly textured so they kind of disappear at a distance.
