Do you INSURE your pieces (love bracelets etc.)?

Risks are not just burglary; for us here, fire is number one and it is very frequent.
Worst, a fire can start in a neighbour's house and burns yours down. i.e. you have zero control. Plus with more and more EVs all over the place, fires are getting harder to extinguish.
We have and addendum clause for overall jewelry & watches tacked to our house policy.

You do not disagree with me. It's just like you won the lottery but generally speaking insurance is a loss.

I had a burgerly in one of my houses in the Bay Area and that was covered by insurance. However, combining what I paid for insurance the past 15 years or so for all my houses I would have been better if without insurance. This is why e.g. some railways are not insured.

Plain simple for a few pieces insurance makes sense but not for a large collection. This is plain math. If the value of being able to sleep with the piece in mind that is a different story with it may be worth paying for.
Doing the math you do have a point! I figured privately investing cost of insurance and letting it grow. It is gambling with risk/return 🤣

Insurance seems to be cheaper in the US than in Europe. I got quotes for my collection and the annual rates would be close to 10% of the total value. So it would only make sense to insure the most expensive 2 or 3 pieces but that's almost a bet. Seems more sensible to take the risk.

I insure everything over 4k as it just makes sense for me to have everything covered.
I do also for a slightly higher threshold with the following caveats:
Is it difficult to re-purchase or limited (I'm looking at you, Hermes)?
It's it easy to lose (such as a diamond earring)?
Is the replacement cost ever-increasing (Hello Carter, VCA, Hermes, Chanel)?

These are my exact thoughts also.
