LOL I don't think I owned a thing more expensive than Tiffany Silver until I joined this forum!!! Candice we really are two peas in a Canadian Pod!

I'd have to say stars too? I'm one of those losers who buys US/INSTYLE/LIFE AND STYLE every week/month and copies star styles that I love. :p:p
If I am in the same pod as you, then I am very flattered:smile1: I'm the one in my family that buys everyone jewellery for birthdays and graduations etc... my mom has two dbty bracelets she wears daily and a tiffany signature diamond necklace; the X one, she never takes it off....and then when she comes to my condo first thing she does after giving me a hug is head to my jewellery box to borrow something:laugh:
I do that too, I like instyle because they always have a great section for jewellery !

Is it weird that the first thing I thought when I read your message was:

"Why is the vet wearing so much jewellery, hasn't she heard of infection control?"

I came here to say my friend is my jewelry advisor, but I agree with fuzzybear. I'm not a vet, but I know that *any* person in the healthcare system should not wear jewelry, especially if it would be in direct contact with a patient. It's extremely unprofessional.... No doc in his/her right mind would ever do a DRE with a ring on, so why do it on a dog?

Great thread, Sue.

I love the style of Anna Dello Russo, though I could never personally pull it off. She has a knack for matching flamboyant costume jewelry so that it looks like it was intended to be all work together.
^she looks INCREDIBLE!!! love that style!

when I was little, I constantly played in my mother's jewelry box. I also loved to look through my paternal grandmother's jewelry. when I was a pre-teen, I used to see a woman at our beach club wearing a by-pass pearl ring as her wedding ring. it was the most amazing & unusual thing I'd ever seen (IMO at that point in my life). I never ever forgot it or her...just that one ring made a huge impact on my jewelry obsession & style.

about 2 years ago I had the opportunity to finally meet her & talk to her as an adult. it was a powerful moment for me. of course she was flattered & had no idea she had made such an impact, & I felt like I was meeting a super star :p

I love this! I'm sure she was very happy to meet you, too.

what I remember was her surprise...lol! I was stammering & gushing as if I were meeting a celebrity. I just wish she was still wearing that pearl ring. I know it sounds silly, but the image of her with that ring is burned into my brain as a standard of elegance.

Another style icon for jewelry is Madeline Albright. That woman can rock a brooch like no one else.

Oh, thank you so much for posting that, Doreen! I'd heard about the visiting-Anwar-Sadat wasp brooch, but never happened to see it. That brooch is incredible. Wish the buggers in my yard glittered like that.

There was a book about her brooches that was published not too long ago, "Read My Pins." And there was an accompanying jewelry exhibit.

Love Madeline and her jewelry! Alas, I've never been able to find a brooch that makes a political statement beyond a big campaign button. DH keeps giving me his Lions and Rotary tie-tacks but they're not exactly in the same league as MA's stunning brooches.

^^ I ordered Madeline Albright's book and can't wait to see the pics.

I saw her in person 2 years ago, and she was wearing an amazing sapphire brooch in the shape of a sunflower. I read online that it was a gift to her from the GIA. :faint:

Oh my! Wouldn't we all love appreciative gifts from the GIA! Heading to the midwest regional library web site now to place an urgent request for the book....

Yes, I did. Mine was my Great-Grand Mother, Nellie. She was born in 1900 and was from humble means. Yet, she was a hard working and extremely smart. Through hard work she was able to invest in real estate and jewelry. Her jewerlry collection was amazing, but out of all of her jewels, my favorite was a 2 carat diamond solitare ring. She would let me wear it ( in the house LOL! ) when I was a little girl. Upon her passing, she left me the ring in her will and I still have it to this day. I loved her so much, and very time I wear the ring, I think of her.

I found a peek of the sunflower brooch here, but you can't see much:

Thanks so much for the link, Doreen! It makes it easy to imagine great things!

Oh, how wonderful! I love having special pieces of jewelry that were owned by a loved one. For a woman to have earned enough to afford a diamond in the days when Nellie was working she must have been especially smart and competent in the world. What a great memory!

Great question! I would have to say TPF is my mentor, LOL! When you love jewelry but have limited funds it is difficult to know what to buy that will give your wardrobe the most mileage, will hold its value, and you will love for a long time.

Thank you... I am wearing her ring today.. I can't wait to pass it on to my Daughter or Grand Daghter. Hopefully, they will love and appreciate this ring as much as I do. I know that my Granny Nellie would want it that way.....:cloud9:
