Do You Ever Leave Your Purse in Your Car?

...How about a vest with many pockets to carry your things for just this sort of occasion? Can you find one at a thrift or charity shop?

For one, I don't even have a comb that would fit in a pocket! :D

And many times I've been stuck on our unreliable subway for hours at at time - so I never leave home without several hours of reading material.

Maybe I shouldn't have said "valuables" as that confused some people. What they said was not to bring anything that wasn't on your person.

Thanks again indiaink for solving my problem!

You are so VERY WELCOME! I'll bet you'll find many uses for that vest, now!

Love the story about the elder woman who used her mink to wrap her purse...

Put your books and non-valuables into a tote and leave it in your trunk. Get a very small wallet and pare down what you need to one credit card and a few dollars and keep it, your car keys and your phone in your pockets. You'll need to make sure that what you are planning to wear will accommodate this. Leave all your other valuables at home.

Sound advice.

I've had to leave my purse in the car a couple of times. I always put it inside a tote or a blanket in the trunk, but I DO NOT do it at the parking space where I'll be leaving the car. Maybe I am paranoid, but I don't want to risk someone seeing me put anything of value in my trunk, and then leaving. I do it before I arrive, even if I have to stop at a gas station or something on the way. If I know in advance I won't be able to bring my bag, I'll just load my pockets & leave purse at home.

Exactly. This goes for Christmas shopping too, ladies, since we're coming into that season. Don't put your stack of purchases in the trunk and go back into the mall. If you put your stuff in the car, leave the mall.

Never ever leave my bag in the car! That's called asking for trouble. If I was in the same situation, I would take a cheap cotton canvas bag - like something you get at the grocery store - and put my book, water bottle and other "worthless" belongings in it. I'd leave in the car, on the seat open wide so that everyone can see there's nothing in there worth breaking into a car for. My valuables, like phone, card case and home key would follow me in a passport pouch that'd hang around my neck and be hidden under my shirt.

Go without for the day... [emoji5]️

Wear a "thin tourist pouch" that fits under your shirt to hold your money or cargo pants that have lots of pockets. Carry your water, book or lunch in a plastic bag.

I work a lot of events and as long as The bag isn't extremely large, we let women bring in their bags. If i'm at another location, I'll carry a wristlet and before I leave home, store my purse in the trunk.

I would carry a small crossbody bag if you think that it won't get in the way. I don't leave my bag in my car, but I had to leave mine today unfortunately. I was at a football game, and it was pouring rain.

Yep, do.
Or don't.
Depends upon situation.

For op's volunteer situation, probably lacks pocket knives & hallucinating addicts.
Just ought not to leave nice bag laying on community table, unwatched.
Easy to grab a cheap baggalini crossbody thing @ discount store. Keep wearing @ hip all day.
Fashion scores zero, but stuff right there & safe scores pretty high.

And, a day of volunteering to help others always scores high.
Winner. :)

Hope helps.

N-E-V-E-R leave your purse in your car unless you're o.k. with it being stolen.

Yes, I will just take my wallet most of the time if I am just jumping in/out of the car for short runs. If im in the mall browsing or out to movies or dinner than I carry my purse.

Never, I always take my purse with me even when I'm just popping into a store for a few minutes. I feel like leaving a purse (especially a luxury one) in open view is inviting trouble. One of my friends had her car broken into, so I've learned to be extra cautious.

A lot of this is based on where you live. For example, I lived in a "very nice upscale" area of Houston, TX for several years. I would NEVER leave anything in my car during that time. My husband even had his car broken into in our driveway in a gated subdivision with paid police patrol. That city had a lot of crime no matter where you are.

However, I have lived in other, safer areas in other US states (NY, IL, AZ, MO) and never had any issues. I have felt comfortable leaving shopping bags in my car (thoughtfully obscured under blankets, under coats, in my trunk, etc.) and had zero issues.

So 1) I think it depends on the crime level in your area and 2) how you leave an item displayed.

I wouldn't leave my purse visible in a car in imaginary Mayberry. But I wouldn't have a minute of worry leaving it in my trunk (before I arrived at my location) in most safe cities / counties.

Better safe than sorry. Good luck!
