Do you ever find yourself wanting a bag because of hype/popularity/FOMO?

I think for me I bought the LV Neverfull because of FOMO. Once they made it difficult to buy, and unavailable on the website, I panicked and bought it from Fashionphile. Now keep in mind, before this, I never liked the NF. I would see them all over and was turned off by it. Now that I own one, I absolutely love it! I can see what the hype is all about. Thinking about getting another one.

The belt bag/bum bag. I bought them at first because of the nostalgia, and hype around it. My sister and I had matching ‘New Kids on The Block’ Fanny packs as kids. Loved it then. I bought a few different Gucci, Prada, and Burberry ones and sold them after realizing I don’t like them at all anymore. They don’t look good on me, and seem to never sit right. I told DH to never let me buy one again. Lol.

Absolutely, but it’s usually AFTER the hype has died.
1. Lululemon belt bag-I recently got two, and I love them. They’re great for field trips, ball games, and hair/nail appointments.
2. Marc Jacob’s The Tote Bag-It’s the perfect size and extremely well-made. I adore the color.
3. Coach Tabby-I have a Tabby 26, Pillow Tabby, and Soft Tabby. Great everyday bags and ver well made.
4. Dior Saddle Bag. I’ve wanted this bag when it originally came out. I was excited for the re-release, but I haven’t bought it. I find the price ridiculous. I feel the same way about the Fendi baguette. I have the original, but I wanted one of the newer ones in pink leather. Again, I found the price to be ridiculous.

Luckily, I have no regrets. Even spending $38 on the belt bags is wasteful If I don’t like or use them.

Everytime I watch the SATC movie I hop online and look for the Louis Vuitton Monogram Motard Firebird Bag - it's hideous, iconic, and would look great on display. I have no need for it other than to honor its place in pop culture.

Not bags or fashion, but stock and jewelry. Once I buy the piece of jewelry, my obsession is satisfied and I am over it.

Oh, and I am now watching Elon Musk introduce the Cyber Truck and I WANT ONE.
I’ve been watching this for several years now. I want it as well!

As far as handbags, I’m old enough and wise enough to recognize BS when I see it and now IDGAF.

I think the more seasoned collector is less prone to get FOMO. We have made mistakes in the past and our sense of style is more "established" so to speak.

BUT then again, when you see a new style that you just have to have, that's all bets are off.
(^ I don't get like this with new bags. I get like this more for vintage.)

And if yes, did you buy the bag? Did you regret the purchase or did it spark a new obsession?

This isn’t really a brand-specific question, thoughts on all bags/brands are welcome, but if it picks up I might make separate threads for specific brands!

For me: I got sucked into the Birkin hype because I suddenly saw an explosion of them around me, and of course they’re exceedingly popular on this forum and handbag lovers everywhere. I found myself stalking preloved sites, even contemplating beginning the arduous process of buying a bunch of stuff I don’t want or need to get my hands on a bag… and then it just struck me that I don’t really like how the bag looks, I find it impractical, and in general - no Hermes bag appeals to me (*runs from pitchforks*) except maybe the picotin, but I don’t like bags that don’t close securely and easily so I would never use one! And if I had to spend $15k(ish? More? Less? God knows) on a handbag - I’d rather buy myself a Chanel or two! The only thing driving my desire for a Birkin was pure FOMO.

So I never got one, and I have no plans of getting one, and if someone just magically gave me one for free I’d probably keep it, just to say I have one, but I’d rarely use it (and perhaps would end up selling it).

What about you?

No, usually not, I'm not as "trendy" as I was when I was younger, now I like what I like! My downfall is in more of a collector if I find something I really like!
