Do you consider DKNY a designer brand?

I know it isn't premium anymore.

But aren't some clothes just mass produced? Like Primark, Walmart clothes? They don't have designers behind them, do they?

I think if it has a well known or prominent designer behind the brand, like Ralph Lauren or Ingo Wiltz, it's definitely designer to me.

I grabbed a black DKNY dress I have, ideal when I travel as it doesn't wrinkle, but it is polyester, it is mass produced in China...

Look, it is not that I am a total snob, I am sitting around with leggings and a Fat Face sweater, a UK brand, not designer, totally high street but also totally comfy....

Loooool. That's cool.
Some even high end designers produce crap products as discussed on here. I have Dior sneakers where cow skin is wearing off after 2 years.

It's designer in the way that all diffusion lines are designer.

It's a classic diffusion line (young-er, more logo, city-focused, available in dept stores and through third parties). but has it's own style and niche. Some of the RTW basics are very well made, some the bags used to be great looking.

But the designer price is not there with DKNY, no? Many diffusion lines still keep their price.

This often happens when the self-named designer is no longer at the helm, DK stepped down working for her fashion lines 2015. In 2016 LVMH sold DNKY to G-III Apparel Group. My guess is a cost-cutting/price reduction strategy has been put in place since.

You see, that's why I don't consider it designer anymore.

It's not like Love Moschino or Emporio Armani.

The mass market and lower production costs, while trading on the name play a big factor, essentially they are part of the fashion industries, all industries want to make money and will go where they think most of the money is made, some high end brands go the other way, it works for them but it is a very small market. DKNY still offers quality and is very durable, but if I compare it to things bought around 2000 or so, different worlds, the items were very unique, you could see that somebody really wanted to make an item that stands out, a lot of it was silk or leather, cotton, linen, now it is mostly artificial fibers, they went from having an edge to saturating the mass market, people who can't afford designer can still buy a nice product and feel they are wearing designer on a budget. DKNY and the regular department store CK line are now basically affordable and the perfect choice for a receptionist, PA in middle management, a bank clerk, etc. And I am not knocking the professions, they do honest work, I am just aware of their salaries.

I consider DKNY on par with the others sold at Macys like Calvin Klein, Michael Kors, Lauren, Vince Camuto, etc. To me they aren't all that prestigious but can have some nice designs and be a good value on sale. I wouldn't pay full price for any of them.

I like the style of DKNY but unfortunately I have had to experience that the quality is really bad !
Whether "designer" or not, I now give it a wide berth .
Not worth the money, not even in the sale !
