I had such a nice afternoon today. DDIL picked me up to have a pedicure with her at a new place in town, and it was divine. It's more like an (almost) head to toe massage. I'd dressed for dinner since we were meeting DH and DS after, and didn't realize I'd need to take off all my jewelry. No big deal......I removed two VCA 20 motif necklaces, ER, eternity band, and my diamond stud earrings.

When we were seated at the restaurant, I pulled everything out of my purse and started putting my accessories back on. I put my rings on, then necklaces, and somehow got caught up in conversation and forgot to add the earrings. After we got home, I panicked......no earrings! I clearly remembered putting them in the middle of the menu, but had no recollection after that.

I called the restaurant on the way back there, and was still talking with them when we pulled up to the door. DH and I went in and searched but came up empty. They took my name and number, and said they'd call if they showed up. I was in tears. One of the earrings was my original engagement ring. How could I have been so careless???

We went back to the car, and started to head home, when DH turned to go back inside the restaurant. He went in and told the manager how upset I was, and how sentimental I was about the earrings, and offered a sizable reward to anyone who found them.

My miracle happened about 20 minutes ago. The manager called to tell me they'd been found! I still can't believe I lost them, let alone that they were found, and are being held for me till the morning. The manager insists he won't accept a reward, but I think I have to insist he does!!!! :-)

Oh my CG! You have been to hell and back tonight! I cannot even imagine how upset you must have been to think you lost something so very precious! I am SO happy for you that it all ended with a happy outcome. It is so nice, in this day and age, that there are still good, honest people,er angels among us! You definitely had one tonight and this was just what I needed to read after my horrid day. Thanks, dear, for showing me that there is still good in this world! I feel the honest gentleman deserves a beautiful, heartfelt, touching thank you card from you because he did do the right thing. It doesn't sound like it was about the money or the reward at all. He was just an Angel among us and you were blessed that he was put in your path. I say pay it forward and do a kind deed for someone else or make a donation in his honor to a charity if he really doesn't want the money for doing the right thing. I think you just crossed paths with a very special soul tonight and showed me that not all of humanity is out for themselves. There are still some very special people out there like your gentleman. Thank you again for sharing your story. I am SO glad they are back in your possession. Good night dear CG! Thank you again for renewing my faith when I really needed it :-)

Thank you so much, Tbbbjb! I was so upset with myself that when we got home from searching the restaurant, I literally went into the bathroom and threw up. It's funny....when I discovered they were missing, I told DH I'd lost the most important jewelry I own.......he nearly fainted.....he thought I meant my diamond ring. I do love it, but one of the earrings is from my original engagement ring, and losing it would truly break my heart.

Please re-read the above. I was busy editing when you replied ;-) I am SO glad your heart is still in one piece!

There are still honest genuine people in this world out there and it was so lucky that one found your earrings :) it's always nice to hear stories like this to restore faith in humans
I'm so happy for you that you found them as one was from your original e-ring and irreplaceable x

Darling CG...What A Story!!!
Bad enough to lose a pair of diamond earrings but one with sentimental value just heartbreaking!
Restores my faith in mankind...what a lovely manager!!! Buy him a nice bottle of champagne, after all, it is a celebration!

I had thought I lost a pair of earrings for good. A pair of turquoise studs which were the first gift my BF ever got me. They were missing for months. I vaguely recalled taking them out of my ears half asleep one night either at a hotel room or his place, couldn't remember where I put them.

Anyway, just a week ago I was in my desk drawer for some reason and one earring was just sitting there in the corner all by itself and I thought to myself, of course I'd only find one! So I looked around the room for whatever reason and I saw something shiny on the floor a few inches under my bed. I thought, that would be too good to be true! Sure enough, it was the other earring.

After months of missing my earrings, I find them in two different places seconds from each other.

Something similar happened with a bracelet of mine. After my cousin passed away (she was like a sister, we were the only grandchildren to our grandmother, now I'm the only grandchild) my uncle (not her dad, her mom's brother) had commissioned his gf's father to make us all bracelets in memory of my cousin. I've worn mine everyday since. One day I took it off because it was bothering me while typing. I forgot to put it back on because I was so used to having it on for years. When I went to retrieve it the next day it was GONE and no where to be found. I tore the house upside down. Months later, my two year old was playing in the middle of the carpet with NOTHING around him but a few toys. Nothing with compartments. Suddenly he goes, "mom, look what I found!" Sure enough, he had my bracelet in my hand. WTF?? Like it dropped out of the sky into his lap. He couldn't tell me where it came from. Just said it was on the floor in front of him.

A co-worker of mine insists that ghosts of loved ones move things around like that on us. It's a sweet sentiment, though I'm not sure if I believe :)

I actually do believe there was something working for you to find those like that! Too much of a coincidence! I think it's awesome.

What a happy ending! DH retrieved my earrings this morning, and took a letter I'd written along with a nice monetary gift. Even though I'd written that I'd like him to use the money however he'd like, or to share it with his coworkers, I added that if he wasn't comfortable accepting the money, to please use it to make a contribution to a cause close to his heart. He refused the money, but said he's treasure the letter. DH said he just seemed happy to have found them for us.

And yes, it's wonderful to be reminded how genuinely good mankind is. Since he refused the money, I'm going to use it to make a contribution to the charity of my choice.

Thank you all so much for all your responses! I was convinced I'd never see my beloved earrings again.
