I recently took my new delightful pm out and a big drop of rain landed right on the top of the handle but when it dried it was gone. The bag is new and the patina is just starting.
After years of worry and stress I am beginning to think that vachetta is way more durable than I thought.
and the way I see it, life is short, my bags are expensive and I am going to enjoy them! If I only took them out on good days some years I wouldn't take them out at all! Things are meant to be enjoyed. I have no intention of dying with a closet full of pristine bags that someone else will wear out. I will probably still baby any higher end bags that I get but I am going to use and enjoy my everyday speedys, neverfull, delightfuls pochettes and Eva and years from now if they get old and ratty I will replace them with new ones. They are well constructed bags and will have years of use under normal wear and tear.

I am totally opposite. I grab my LVs when the weather is bad. I consider them weather-proof. I have one damier bag that I very much dislike, because the handles hurt me. This is a good bad weather bag.
I would never carry my Hermes bags in the rain.

It's good to know that people are carrying their bags in such extreme weather conditions without the canvas ripping/cracking.

It always scared me when the canvas became super stiff in the cold.

I don't think you have to worry about the cold cracking the canvas. Us Canadians carry our LV in winter in well below 0 degrees! The kind of cold that hurts your lungs, makes your eyes stick when you blink and you have to keep your car plugged in in order for it to start! LOL I am not joking, when I lived in Alberta it was that cold in the winter and I took may LV bags out all the time and never had a problem, so I'm not sure how cold it would have to get to crack the canvas but I don't think you will have a problem in the U.S.

I don't let the bad weather stop me from taking any of my designer bags but if it's raining I'm under an umbrella or usually in a shopping mall so it's only going from the car to the shops & I would tuck it in my coat so it doesn't get wet.

absolutely not.

Bags are to be used. Just becuase it's a luxury item doesn't mean one should baby it. Where's the luxury feeling when you're always worried about your items?!

I also buy designer shoes, if I go along with the same mentality, does that mean that I should never wear my CL boots in winter? Or maybe I shouldn't wear my CLs at all...

Mmm its good to see both sides of the argument, because i really would want to just carry my bag without worrying...
I guess the fact its new makes me extremely more careful because i dont want to "damage" it faster than through normal wear and tear if that makes sense...
I think winter here in Australia isnt as bad as Winter in Canada or other parts of the northern hemisphere as we dont get chilling temperatures...
average temps for me is about 18degrees or so.... just that it rains a hell lot here and can get very windy...
Thanks everyone for their input and comments on their own preferences ;)

No, why would I ? I'm a winter person - i'd even carry my LV's during a blizzard! Because i know they wouldn't be damaged afterwards

At least they survived snow, rain and hail in the past :D

I tend to use Azur more in the summer, and less in winter.

But other LV's - all year around. And amarante is a neutral colour, so you could wear it in summer too.

As for keeping it away from heat, I think LV mean - don't leave it in a hot car. Just like you wouldn't leave your kids or pets in a parked car in Australia in the middle of the day :D

were these bags with vanchetta? I can imagine the bags without vanchetta are more stress free in winter

None of my bags have Vachetta - only my Monogram Macassar Bass MM got black Vachetta Leather, but on that you don't see spots

But my girlfriend uses her bags during snow and rain too, and her Tivoli PM's and Brea MM's Vachetta just look fine, even on rainy days - but of course she tries to don't get any raindrops on it, unlike me i also walk through the rainm but as you pinted out i don't got any Vachetta ^^

Definately, though i dont think i would ever leave it in a parked car seeing i think my car will get rolled LOL

i have found that first when rain hits the vachetta it instantly turns very dark, but if i just leave it and not try to wipe it off it just dries up in a minute and leaves no mark at all. I have found that what people usually call water spots are actually caused by other things because the water doesn't leave marks.

I agree with you.
