Do people tell you it's dangerous to wear bling?

Depends where you are I guess. I wear all jewellery in London but when I was travelling around the world for a year I did not take any gold or diamonds with me. So it really depends where you are and what your day / night plans are.

Li mom, Yes, I am in the US. I notice lots of South Asians around here rocking their gold too, but there have been similar targeted attacks, and we are all much more likely to tone it down than put ourselves and our kids at risk. We also don't tend to buy anymore mega pieces, and where before we would have traveled with expensive stuff, that is very unlikely now that TSA is all up in our bags. ...

Same here, visited there one year for my anniversary and hubby bought me a necklace. The SA was like "Please don't walk on the streets of the city with a Cartier Bag". I was a little taken aback. But we stashed the bag in our backpack we had and we were good, I asked about other jewelry and she said better safe than sorry because there are some mugging in the city.

I was planning of getting something from Tiffany but then I realized that just a couple of blocks away, there were so many homeless people around. I was turned off by that and I decided not to get anything.

YES!

I like my little sparkles rather then big so that is one thing that helps

When family/friends state bigger diamonds or a watch with too much bling as a choice..have to say that I am not comfortable

Depends on where your daily environment is but most ppl will have to face different environments throughout the day running errands etc.

I actually only go to certain malls..joined a gym with a social club so the security is that much better where the staff knows you and keeps their eyes open

I am wary if I am in a less comfortable environment. You have to be cautious these days

I'm very situationally aware where ever I go so I don't worry too much about it. I don't overload the bling either. It really depends on where I'm going, what my plans are & who is with me. I don't travel with my good stuff because I don't want to lose it or have something happen to it. I have a well made wedding set & some earrings that I wear when I'm traveling. They look real so no one is the wiser & my real jewelry is locked in the safe at home.

I don't have a flashy car or high end designer purses and clothes - I am just a jewelry junkie. Like someone else said on here, the low key clothing and car kind of balance it out so I don't draw too much attention (at least I don't think so). On a daily basis I wear my Rolex, diamond studs, Cartier Love bracelet and 2 ct solitaire ring, sometimes with 1 carat diamond band but usually I prefer the solitiare look.
Despite living in a suburb with lots of organic hippie types (not so much bling here in general), I don't feel like it's too much or it stands out or people even notice in general.

The same thing happened to me at the woodbury outlet upstate New York.
I had bought some jewelry and the sales woman told me to put it in one of my clothing shopping bags. I was shocked as the place is full packed of tourists and shoppers.
I guess there must have been some problems over there.

As a native New Yorker...I'm told all the time to be careful of what kind of jewelry I wear. I take public transport everyday. And a lot of people on the trains do get robbed. Some of these guys are experts and can steal anything from you within a matter of seconds. That's why I always have my hands in my pockets or just strategically hide my jewelry somehow on the train. We are also told not to take our cellphones out on the subway because of robbers just grabbing the phone from your hands and running.

Where I live crime has increased enormously and people get mugged all the time: mainly Rolex watches and Hermès bags. I wear both, but in the summer, when my arms are naked, I don't wear my Rolexes, I only wear them in winter when they are hidden under my sleeves. On the other hand, I wear my H bags all the time, but I'm always very careful of my surroundings and I'm in jeans and T shirts 95% of the time, so I try to be very low profile.

Unlike many people I think it's not worth risking to get hurt just for a watch or a handbag or any bling, my safety is my n°1 priority. Of course this unsafety makes me angry because I can't wear my jewelry, but there's nothing one can do about it.

I live in San Francisco. People are more likely to be driving a 100k car than wearing a 4 carat ring.

Yup. I'm with you. Teslas around here seem like a dime a dozen. SF is not too flashy a city with regard to bling. But if you move 25-40 miles south, into the peninsula, big bling is everywhere. Worn walking the dog, taking the kids to soccer, coffee at Starbucks. No one bats an eye. What do you expect? You're in the heart of the tech world.

The times I've purchased from Cartier or Tiffany's I've declined a shopping bag and put the items in my purse. Just because I don't want to be a walking target. I try and be cautious when I take public transit also by wearing gloves or keeping my hands in my pockets or not wearing my flashy items when I'm not taking my car.

I live in NYC and seeing people with jewelry on is so commonplace that it's not even a big deal lol. Like literally, it's hard to see someone that doesn't wear some kind of jewelry. I'd feel way more uncomfortable wearing bags with logos.

Agreed. Of course it does depend on what part of the city you're in (and DS's studios are not in the best part of town) but even over there (between Penn and Port Authority), if you avoid eye contact and look like you know where you're going, no one will bother you.

I like to look around and be free while I am walking, lol. Then again, I can walk anywhere and be unfazed. You have a point though, Penn Station is so crowded and late at night a bit too much for me.
