The unrecognized brilliance of Keanu Reeves

With the high-profile Hotel invasion robbery in Paris this week, my loved ones are giving me a lot of grief about wearing my diamonds, like my tennis bracelet and my solitaire ring (which is only 1.5 carat). They are concerned that someone could rob me.

Muggings are up in my city recently but I have never been all that concerned.

Now I find myself having to defend wearing bling. Anyone else?

Don't think their is a need to "defend" your bling.. Wear it & enjoy it.. Be aware of your surroundings
I wear my jewelry etc all the time..
People in general should be aware that their really is no need to have it all for viewing on social media, IYKWIM

I think one needs to put the warnings into perspective. Although around here there have been instances of women being mugged for their earrings and wedding rings while walking their dog at night--although it's beyond me why anyone would risk a felony armed robbery conviction for jewelry they can't even see in the dark, there have been hundreds of times more muggings for phones and backpacks of electronics. In fact I would say that the most dangerous place in town is now the mall parking lot outside the Apple store, thieves targeting anyone leaving the Apple store with a bag. Face it, electronics are so much easier to sell these days than jewelry is. I'm much more concerned about my electronics making me a target than my jewelry.

You're so right. I think I'll counter with this argument the next time someone brings it up.

Never been told until I visited San Francisco. A friend of mine who is local told me to be careful with my bling and watch. I was only wearing my small diamond studs, Victoria pendant and my Rolex.

I think it can be dangerous but I also think it comes down to how you look. I personally have no expensive clothing, shoes, bags or car and because of that people tend not to give a second look to my jewelry even though I've had close calls. When they see my little car, they move on, assuming my jewelry is fake. I make a conscious choice to live like that because I love jewelry, don't want to stop wearing it and rather people think it's fake. It is amazing how people judge jewelry based on what you wear but I'm grateful for that. I've been able to wear really nice things in dangerous areas.
Where I live everyone is pretty minimal so I can stand out with my jewelry but understated clothing helps take the attention away.

I get the lecture all the time from family. I live in surburb outside of Detroit and when I'm in some parts of city I'm definitely more cautious. But I wear my wedding rings and diamond watch because lets face it that's what it's for

Same here. Only my jewelry is expensive, the rest of my clothes are cheap and low key.
Meh. I live in San Francisco and I'm not worried. I take care to not wear more than $1 million's worth daily. LOL
You might not be responding to me, but just to be clear I didn't say I was worried.... I was just curious if others hear this from family.

My BF is always harping on it, and he grew up on Park Avenue so it's not that he's unused to bling. I can't quite wrap my head around it.

My attitude is it is all insured...All of our lives are far more valuable than our jewelry ever will be.
Yeah agreed. I don't think the concern I'm getting is about theft, it's about getting injured if the jewelry prompts a robbery.
