Do I really need 2 lavender Givenchy bags?

DO NOT BUY THE BAGS.
Yes, those bags are gorgeous and the color stunning but how are you going to feel about yourself having broken your commitment?
Worst comes to worst, you can always buy those bags on the resale markets at serious discounts.
As a fellow sometimes reformed shopaholic, I am cheering you on.:flowers:

I already own the lavender Antigona lock and shark lock boots. I was simply posting photo of the 4g bag with those items to determine whether too similar. I was ready to pull the trigger the other day but am still holding strong. I did order the lavender 4g card holder and was so excited but it arrived yesterday and I am disappointed. Probably going to send it back and it may have helped get me off the lavender 4g bag (though I do recall liking it in person in Paris a couple of months ago). That's the good news. The bad news is now I have been obsessing over a light yellow Chanel 22 and have an appointment this weekend to go look as I was able to track 1 down at a boutique about 45 minutes away. Appreciate your encouragement now more than ever!

Until recently, I have not owned any purple or Lavender bags. I love pink and am usually always drawn to pink which is why i have numerous pink bags (mostly light pink or with light pink accent but a couple bright pink too). When I was in Paris in September I popped into the Givenchy store very quickly and a display of sharklock boots and mini antigona lock bag in a Beautiful lavender color immediately caught my eye. I kept thinking about and regretted not buying (I was in a rush to get to the Dior museum that day lol).... so much that I welt back to Paris for one day to purchase when I was in Amsterdam n November and realized they didn't have a store in Amsterdam.

Since then I have used several times and am still in love with this color. I ended up ordering the lavender 4g slides and card holder l, a few sweaters, and even a pair of Uggs and birkinstocks in very similar color. When i was at the boutique, the very kind SA "surprised" me by going downstairs and setting up a display for me of all the Lavender items they had. He suggested the 4g bag instead and while I considered it for a moment, I was set on the antigona lock (I think bc I had it in my mind for so long).

Well, I just stumbled access the bag and it's on sale! At the same time, I really wanted to prove that I could do a bag buying ban after buying so much last year. I don't want to feel like I fell off the wagon so soon. But My gut is taking me to snatching it up at this price before color no longer available and I regret it, but do I really need 2 bags in this color. Are they different enough? Help TPF friends!

They are different enough. And no reason not to have more than one bag in a color you love.

I fully respect that this post is a month old and you already made your decision, but I completely support your 2-bag purchases. The larger one is a great one to make sure that you have the supplies you need to get to a particular destination while the smaller one is when you know a credit card and state ID will do.

Good luck!

Did you end up getting it?
Loved reading this thread, everyone had great points and I loved seeing you embrace your love of Givenchy lavender so well!

If you chose not to get it, well done! If you did end up getting it on sale, well done also! My input after obsessing far too much over particular bags and regrets over ones i missed, despite bag bans at times, is, (if the financial bit isn't the issue), sometimes it's better to get that piece you're wanting deeply in your heart, if it saves you from buying multiple other things that just don't light you up the same way. Ive found that's helped my spending slow down greatly, and i feel more at purse peace. I feel like ive gotten what i really wanted, and not a substitute. Plus, I'm a sucker for a good deal, and Givenchy goes on great sales, and that colour is one you clearly love and is limited... it's important not to get sucked into the "limited" part of it, too, it is a sales tactic when they push "limited" items, but clearly you tried the cardholder and it didn't "replace" the feeling of the bag you actually wanted.

So , if it means you buy less of other stuff, maybe it's worth it  my two cents only!

I also do what you've done and sit and think about it for a few weeks- often the want for it dies down, and I'm glad I didn't act impulsively- but, sometimes you just know if you'd regret not getting it in years to come.

Congrats! I have techhnically surpassed to 30 day mark as I snuck in a purchase on Dec 31 before I was supposed to be trying a ban for the entire year of 2024 (have never tried a ban before). Main reason being I bought so many bags in 2023 its ridiculous. I have more bags than anyone could possibly ever need in just about every brand, color, size and style - and the truth is that although I'm making a point to use them all, they get very little use bc i work from home and sometimes don't even leave my house for days at a time. I am not married or dating where I'm going out to nice dinners and events all the time and noone I know cares what bag you have so I just buy for my own enjoyment.

I've always been a shopaholic, even as a teen, but its gotten a bit out of control lately. Last year, I splurged on several bags at price points beyond what I ever thought I'd spend (e.g. Dior not Hermes) then went on a major spree when I was in Europe in November and I swore that was going to be it for awhile. Unfortunately, my mindset has been a few grand here and there is no big deal but when added up, I literally could have had a new roof on my house, a new car, a nice chunk towards daughter's college, etc. It isn't just the bags, I recently purchased a piece of jewelry and a one of a kind table at a jewelry and antique show - both Insanely expensive impulse buys that weren't expected or necessary. But I had zero buyer's remorse.

Sometimes I think I could never imagine spending the money done do on an H bag, but truth is I've spent more only I've justified it bc it's distributed over a variety of bags. My warped mindset is that $2 k is an inexpensive bargain when in reality its also a mortgage payment.
Oh! - somehow I've missed this! Well done on recognising this issue! It's really common, a lot of us here have felt the same for sure. (Raises hand sheepishly)

If you did get the Givenchy, enjoy, and don't stress, your bag ban can still continue from the day of that purchase, right, and continue for another 12 months! You can do it! It's OK to have bags and enjoy your bags! Maybe for every bag you buy or want to buy, put the money or some of it that you would have spent, in stocks or a savings account or something instead? You might feel a huge amount of gratification seeing your balance grow over the year, and that might help you shop less  a bag ban is a bit like a diet, can feel very depriving.. framing it instead with a behaviour that's helping you grow in a different way, like putting the money elsewhere or even in a different hobby, might help? Good luck with your journey :girlsigh:
