Do Discontinued LV bags like Mahina become worth more??

Since I am sort of out of touch recently with LV. I did not know they discontinued the Mahina line. I loved it so bought a resale. Was wondering if LV bags that are discontinued do they go up or down in value? Thanks

I don't know if there is a high demand for Mahina. You could look at the completed listings on ebay and see what bags sold for. Some bags get higher amounts because they are more popular and more in demand like the NF and speedy.

Looking at the completed items on eBay is a great way to estimate the value of a bag. Don't look at the current listings because people ask for crazy prices: it doesn't mean that's the actual market price.

Usually down, and significantly down. It's hard to think of discontinued regular-line LV's that have appreciated long term. Even once-desirable but now discontinued bags (like the Suhali line) hit a resale price level well below their initial retail and don't change upward.

The Mahina was only moderately popular to begin with: it was seen as very expensive at the time it debuted, and for some LV buyers it's now dated looking.

Exceptions would be hard-cased pristine luggage, trunks, and VIP-only limited rarities.

+1

sold listings are really the only way to know so don't look at current listings, look at sold/completed only

I would bring some nuance and add that items featuring the monogram may bring as much or more money over time. I have seen bags from the 1990s in monogram, or even épi sell today for more than they were bought 25 years ago. That's because inflation and price increases have distorted the market.

Bring that nuance right over here. Which pieces are you thinking of?

So I think it's fair to say some do well over time, and many pieces simply drop. Looking at you, Cherry Blossom...I paid an inordinately high price for the Papillon at one point and learned that lesson, horribly.:D

The Épi Speedy for example. Some of the luggage pieces sell for about what they retailed for in the 1990s. The Monogramouflage bags sell for more than retail.

I agree with you that the vast majority drop in price. That's why I never buy with the idea of selling. It's just silly.

And I must add that I agree about Suhali. It was once the top of the line at Louis Vuitton... Nowadays it's getting no love on the second-hand market.

Which is frustrating, if you think about quality and aesthetics. I imagine the same issue pertains to Mahina, but again checking completed listings will tell that story.

If you want to know what will retain value the best on the secondhand market, it is usually the most loud and logo heavy piece you can think of. If it screams LV, it will sell to the pre loved market.
The bigger the logo, the higher the price.

Thank you for the info. Some bags do keep going up but I guess it's ones still in the line . I loved the mahina line but it was too pricey for me. Bought a resale and will be happy to get my money out of it if I decide to resell it. I don't like the loud lvstyles. I have Damier. Sold my signature ones
