Do a certain number of watchers usually bring a buyer?

I once had a pair of rare R&R shorts for BIN-- I had like 15 watchers. Finally the thing sold, and litterally the next day 3 of the watchers asked if the item was still for sale, whether or not I'd re-list. 1 watcher even had the nerve to ask me if I was willing to re-list for $50 shipping included... my BIN was for $150.

Well I'll be honest. I watch items all of the time. Sometimes I just haven't decided if I want to bid on them yet and I'm watching to see if anyone else does bid on it. Sometimes I just want to "bookmark" the item so I can look it up later if I decide later on that I ABSOLUTELY need it. But I'll be more careful about what I watch from now on. I certainly never meant to get the buyer's hopes up.

Don't worry about it. You are allowed to watch. It stays in your "watched" file a lot longer than it is available in the "completed listings" file so it gives you a good reference for a possible future purchase.

Having a huge amount of watchers can definately mean no bids. If im a watcher its usually because im interested in buying the item and will keep an eye on it and wait till the end to bid, however on my auctions iv had so many watchers and not a single bid. I would then relist at a lower price and the same thing happened so...

I don't quite understand - a bit more info please.
If I see a an item and put it in 'my watch' list - then the seller sees that it is in my watch list?

If I'm interested in a purse, I often watch a bunch of listings for that style. I often have no intention of purchasing then, I just want to think about it for a while.
I certainly didn't realise that the buyer could see that......

ughhh no! I once had 56 people watching one of my handbags I had sold on ebay and no buyers for a few days. LOL!

but from what everyone else is saying, watchers are more likely people who may be interested or want to see how much it wins for.

also, i wish they would allow someone to watch an item for so long until they make you buy it. hahaha jk :p

Rats, I was hoping y'all would say YES!

I'll say YES.

By my calculations, for an item selling below $100 I get 1 bid per 7-8 watchers. For items selling for $100-$300 I need 15-20 watchers to receive 1 bid. Anything above $300 is highly unpredictable but typically I need more than 20 watchers to receive a single bid and even that is not guaranteed.

These are strange times, a lot of sellers lately are experiencing nothing until the very last minute. In that case I think a lot of watchers may be a good thiing. Many seem to be using the BIN/ Best Offer price as a sort of auction, sending in their bids at the 9th hour. Guess they're hoping to get something for nothing. I know the "Best Offers" lately haven't even been decent, let alone "Best"! You might look over there on the Seller Central board, lots of activity about what's working or not these days.. Good luck to you~

I'm not a big seller, but sometimes I'll watch an item to see if it sells, because I try to list my item when it will be the only one like it. If the item doesn't sell and is relisted, I might wait awhile to list mine.

As a buyer, I'm very concerned with buying impulsively, so I will always watch something I'm interested in, and think it over before bidding. Sometimes, even though I really want it, it's just not in the financial cards and sadly, I have to let it go. Much better to have watchers, than impulsive bidders who end up being NPBs.

So true!

I confess, I've done a lot of watching without any activity. I like to watch auctions, not only as buyer but also as a seller.
As a buyer, I liken it to window shopping. I am a bag- and shopaholic so I'm sure there's always something out there that I'll find more appealing. My funds are not limitless, so I have to make sure that it's an item that I really really want b/c it just means I won't be able to get something else I've had my eyes on.
As a seller, I've learned to not take those number of watchers so seriously b/c it does get my hopes up. No one really bids until the last few seconds, esp if it's a hot item.

I watch while I comparison shop or authenticate. And, it helps to remind me that I was looking at that item too. Sometimes I get busy at work and two days later I have a reminder in my email. Because of the "watching" aspect on Ebay I've probably purchased 80% of the items at the end. If it wasn't there I'd have most likely forgotten about the item and kicked myself later for missing the sale.
