I saw this article title and I was like, hey more interesting and informative H content that was perhaps floating on the forum but not written up and shared as a PB post. And immediately my first thought was whether it's another article from you!

Great to see my instinct proven right, because I know that if it's an H article from you it's bound to be a good one :flowers:

After reading through, as expected - great article! You were thorough and clear, and did a great job on explaining. I am new on the H journey and still learning, maybe one day I will be lucky enough to get my SO and I know I will have this wonderful piece and the great content from all the nice people on this forum to help me!

I do think that (personal taste, obviously!) some people may go a little overboard on SO especially if it's a first one, meaning I tend to see all the bells and whistles being selected, different everything (color stitching etc) and trying to just grab all the SO only options. I think the most stunning SOs (which I've definitely seen from members on this forum) are ones where things truly work together, where the elements are not picked for "I can do it so I will" sake and the piece works as a whole concept. I can only hope that if I ever get so lucky one day, I can create something that truly delights me!

Thank you again for another great write up, more coming in the future maybe? Looking forward to them!

Edit: oh and I think there's something different between a blog post and the way information is shared on the forum - just due to the format being different. There is a wealth of information here, but it does take some searching and flipping and sometimes a little digging. Having a blog post writeup is great for first step learning, and a post having more structure does make it easier for consumption. I think the best of both worlds comes when one starts with such an article to get the rundown, then come over and do more in-depth research. So I fully support your plug of the forum and trying to tie the blog to here!

Great resource for anyone placing a SO or dreaming about a future SO. I like how you explained the exceptions/particulars regarding anything other than a version 1 or 2 bag; I’ve seen this issue discussed a lot and now it’s much more clear. The example photos were beautiful too.

I have to laugh because I was sitting on an airplane when I wrote it and I was quite literally grabbing my head trying to figure out how to explain it as clearly as possible!!!

Aw, you're awesome!!! Thanks for the kind feedback! Yes, I really do like to tie the two together because I haven't really seen it done before - it seems PureBlog people stick to the blog and TPFers stick to the forum. Maybe people don't know what a fabulous resource this place is!

Awesome! Honestly, there is sooooooo much good information here on the boards, I think TPF is the best resource!
I completely agree. I’m nowhere close to an SO, so hadn’t researched it at all. Having done other searches, I love how your article consolidated the key points in an easy to read blog post. I found it educational while being concise. I now have a blueprint for my research.

Wonderful article! :yahoo: Loved your breakdown of the options and process! The only part that gets a tiny bit confusing is all the different versions (I think it is impossible not to be confusing tbh) . I think you did a spectacular job explaining it and all the nuances. Maybe a diagram like Hermès provides (or even a real picture of someone’s bag who picked that particular option) would make it more clear to someone who isn’t super familiar with Hermès special orders.

“SO many options SO little time”... (pun intended) could be the best phrase to describe my SO process. I didn’t sleep when I was told I would be able to create a SO...and when I did.. I literally dreamed about all the color/leather options. I had less than a day to plan and decide, but I *think* I ended up with the right choice. You really never know how crazy your mind races when there are a gajillion options and only hours to decide. :panic:

What a great article!! The SO process and overwhelming multitude of options can be mind-boggling, and you did a fantastic job explaining it all! You also gave some very sound advice, such as rolling with it if the choices offered are not the same as anticipated. I’ve been fortunate enough to place one SO (still waiting for it to arrive!) and I remember the anxiety I was going through trying to figure out which options I wanted. I was convinced I wanted a Kelly sellier in chèvre, and then when I showed up for my appointment, my SA suggested something in ostrich, and all of my pre-planning went out the window.

Looking forward to more excellent articles from you!!
