I recently had a 7 stone diamond ring redesigned into a necklace, turned out great and I loved it. Notice "loved". I've worn it constantly since I got it, sometimes alone sometimes layered with a Helen Ficalora charm necklace. Yesterday I looked down and it was gone. I've retraced steps, searched and searched and I can't find it. My true feeling is that it's in my car or home, so I'll keep searching. My problem is that I've paid insurance on this piece for almost 20 years and didn't have time to change it from ring to necklace on policy. Do you think I'll have a hard time with claim? How would you handle it?A number of years ago I thought I had lost another piece of jewelry and it ended up being found behind the microwave(?), but I had made claim and insurance company was in process of sending check no problem, so my policy gives full replacement value. Any help would be great, thanks.

^^Totally agree with the ladies above. You re-designing it doesn't take away from the value of the piece nor negate that you've been paying insurance on it already for years. Good Luck!!

Thanks, I'm just so bummed. I hate loseing things. I know I deserve the $$ because I've been paying the premium for so long I just hate that I can't be honest. It was a terrible day yesterday, somebody dinged my car, and I looked down and a hole in a brand new shirt. Oh well, today has to be better. Thanks for the advice.

I totally agree with the above. In fact I've exchanged a Van Cleef necklace for another one (just changed my mind) and not bothered to alert the insurance (too busy) - the value is the same either way so I wouldn't worry about it. I'm so sorry you had such a crappy day - bad things happen in 3's so they say... I know the necklace had sentimental value but maybe you'll be able to use the money to buy something even more fab? !

Today was better, thanks. The one thing that was making me uncomfortable about saying that it was the ring was how was I going to say I lost it? The necklace just fell off and I couldn't say that about a ring. I went to the jewelry store today and the owner said that it was basically the same piece of jewelry and he would provide the insurance company with what ever they need. He also said I wouldn't have any problem. Sooooooo what should I buy girls?????? What would you buy for, say $1000-$2000 if you could buy anything?? (my bigger pieces are a Weil diamond watch, wg diamond tennis braclet, large diamond necklace, Helen Ficalora multi charm necklace, little and big diamond hoops, asst pearls, I also have other asst watches, yg charm braclet, I could go on and on but that's the idea, oh and some Yurman pieces)

Oh no!! I'm so sorry about what happened! I just went through this with my cell phone, but luckily it isn't worth nearly as much as your necklace

But I know people who manage to lose ANYTHING, so I don't think that saying you lost a ring is unbelievable; I've lost rings myself. I almost lost one the other day because I took it off to help pick up furniture (not wanting to lose it haha), put it in my pocket, and completely forgot about it until it fell onto the carpet as I was putting my jeans in the hamper.

I have been wanting a Cartier WG Love bracelet (a little bit above $2k) for a while, and on the plus side, you wouldn't lose it once it's screwed on! :P Otherwise, if the necklace came out that well, maybe you could have your jeweler re-make the necklace?

Good luck with it all!!

Still haven't found it but went shopping today, which means the cleaning lady will find it tomorrow LOL. But I think I like the Roberto Coin Dogbone dbty in yg or a Tiffany one stone yg dbty(as big as I can go useing ins $$). What do you prefer? I'm torn.

Tiffany - one stone. By the way, another way to 'lose' a ring. I set down a rather sizeable pink tourmaline ring set in a rather big mounting and my little Yorkie-poo picked it up and ran away with it!!!! I nearly had a heart-attack until I grabbed his treats and tricked him into dropping it. True Story. Here's to your new purchase.:yahoo:
