I got married almost 8 years ago when it was in to have yellow gold and platinum on one ring. The band of my rings are platinum but the are around the diamonds is yellow gold. I would like the entire ring to be platinum. Other than having it reset is there any way I can dip just the yellow gold part and turn it into platinum?

Has anyone heard of doing this?

TIA

Here is a pic of my rings.

You can have the whole ring dipped in rhodium to make it look white. It is fairly inexpensive but it will have to be redone when it starts to wear off. Since most of the yellow gold is on top, the plating should last a while.

Can I do this even though the band on the ring is platinum, not white gold? What I really want to do is re-create the setting in all platinum, but I am sure that would cost a fortune. Does anyone know about what it costs to dip your ring in rhodium?

it'll cost between 30 and 60 dollars depending on where you go and if they dip it multiple times, technically rhodium is a component of platinum so you will have no problem having the rhodium "stick" to the platinum.

Rhodium will stick to the platinum just fine. IT will stick to the gold but it won't last forever, it will wear off probably within a few months. But it will give you an idea of how it would look to go with all platinum.

I've had yellow gold dipped in rhodium for free from my jeweler. My earrings have lasted, havent had them redipped and its been over a year. A ring I had done I will need to have redipped now after a year, and it gets worm about once a week.

the 2-tone isn't unusual at all. I agree w/ the ones that said the dip should last for quite a while as it's not the band - no rubbing really.
It should last way more than a few months. . . I've never had to get any of pieces done more than once every 3-4 yrs.

I had my yellow gold rings rhodium plated.. $45 per ring. I got them done last September. My wedding band is still fine, the engagement ring is starting to show the yellow again, but only on the very bottom of the band.

I agree with everyone else that rhodium plating isn't that expensive, but would need to be redone periodically to keep it white. However, I just wanted to chime in that I think your wedding is is absolutely beautiful just the way it is! I particularly like two-tone pieces because they make it possible to combine both yellow and white gold jewelry more effortlessly.

The rate at which the rodium wears off will also depend on your individual body chemistry, if your sweat is slightly more acidic, that will wear the plate off faster.
