Dior RTW: Feelings on wearing older seasons

Actually i want a lot of key pieces LOL but my problem is that it might look dated after a few years. Paying that much, it’s obvious I want to make it last as long as possible.

My main key pieces will be tops - t shirts, short sleeved shirts, mostly casual wear. Our temp is like singapore but no cold AC in malls. So it’s purely 1 layer dressing whole year round.

I lost 1 H shawl huhuhu so i thought maybe i should start buying things that i actually wear.

I remember that H SAs in your area were a bit overbearing; is there a local Dior? In the US and in Europe, I’ve found Dior SAs to be uniformly very nice in person. But, my Dior SA did say that for the Asian market (he was referring to China) Dior merchandising tends to be very one season, very logo driven. So, I would say, buy what you love, but cherry pick the seasonal patterns. for example, I think the Under The Sea print would be relatively easy to wear in subsequent years, and the reverse TDJ and regular TDJ are considered somewhat classic, but the all star (red, white and blue) may not be. There was specifically an UTS button down cap sleeve dress (that was so short I tried it on with pants, second pic) that might be the type of style that could work in your climate. As for short sleeved tops, I like the ones that are a linen Cotton blend as opposed to straight cotton (the latter short sleeved sweat shirts which IMO only look like they could be cheap dupes even though they are boutique ).

here are pics of two summer tops that I think are relatively classic (already from past seasons as they were on sale). I however did not buy them as I would not get enough cost per wear from them. DH also thought they made me look more chunky, so it was a no go lol. The fourth pic is a short sleeved jacket that I think will get a lot of use in the summer (there is a matching skirt) Elastic banded dark shorts (that go on sale at the end of the season) are relatively sturdy and well priced on sale

note: for all of the brand‘s purported diversity, the classic short sleeved button down dress makes my moms generation immeidately think maids uniform, (my UTS dress fourth pic is not, but the stripe in the last pic is) so I would caution against buying or wearing that type of item there unless that’s the look you would like. My SA did not understand what I was talking about until I googled our countries maids uniform and showed him. He laughed and said, OMG, that’s the dior spring collection (I made a mental note to only wear that dress in Europe or the US lol)

Pls Post pics of whatever you decide! We would love to see!

Great advice. I live in a tropical country so I can only dress in 1 layer. Since we can’t travel nowadays all my jackets are hibernating.

I’ll keep in mind that no matter what season I wear i won’t be judged by it (by the SAs)
I still wear runway pieces from 15 to 20 years ago. People can judge me however they want, but I'm in my 40s and I really don't care.

This can be said about RTW from any brand, whether from a luxury brand or a fast-fashion brand. Even "classic" pieces can look dated with changing fashion trends. A plain sweater may seem like a classic staple, but its fit, colour, and even the style of knitting can make it look dated in a few years. Just think of men's suiting, which is arguably classic. Pants went from high-waisted to mid/low-rise, and loose-fit to slim-fit in the past few decades. Jackets became shorter, and slimmer-fitting as well. And brown-tones were popular in the 70s, but not anymore.

I suggest getting what you like, with the tendency of not looking dated soon so that the price can be justified with enough usage. But if we're looking at longevity over 2 decades or more, I'm not sure if those pieces would look as good on us when our physique and general appearance age. That is, if we still like the item even a few years later. Our tastes change, too.
Another factor is our own body types. Certain looks are trendy but not for some of us and other looks could be older but more flattering. My general rule of thumb of spending thousands on a piece is, will I wear it 10 years from now?
As an example I have some jackets from balenciaga ss 2006. I just discovered that they work well with my big skirt by Y3 I just purchased. Isn't it part of the fun?

I'm not sure how we can convince you aside from the that fact that if you truly fall in love with an article of clothing you will want to keep reaching for it season after season. I have items in my wardrobe that are 20 years old and I get as much excitement wearing them today as I did then. If you want to hedge your bets, reach for something with a classic style (bar jacket/coat) especially since these categories of items are not washed often. Therefore they will stay pristine longer than say a shirt or a pant. Also ignore trends and what might be popular and simply choose items that speak to you!
This! I feel the same. You can find many Dior pieces from any time period that are wearable now. All designers have some very trendy pieces every season along with many classics.

Thank you for all you valuable input!

I will definitely stay away from logo pieces, which sadly, Dior has a lot of lately. I love a lot of pieces but the huge christian dior emblazoned at the back is a 100% no go for me.

I for sure wouldn’t mind buying sale pieces but unfortunately I live in the boondocks…..

Thank you 880 for the lovely pics!!

H sales sales here are quite nice but at the time my focus was only on bags. There are also not many stocks whenever I visit so why would I spend for those to get an imaginary promised bag? So i went to the reseller route. Sure i paid a premium but at least i got the bags i wanted. So now I’m venturing into RTW

I just get into RTW recently . My thought is that pick something that you really love (that’s the most important). Being seasonly print or not is not my main concern. I understand sometimes friend circle may notice it but I wouldn’t care. If i prefer a classical piece I would pick a coat or bar jacket . Then pair with more seasonal piece (top/deess/skirt) .

Will shop end of Feb as I’m going on a very short trip. I’m also considering LV because they don’t hold sales. I’ll only buy Dior or other pieces if it’s on sale :D. It’ll bother me to pay full price on items.

I already have several cold weather wear for vacations only. So now I’m veering towards 1 layer dressing pieces like a t shirt or pants. I’m a very casual dresser.
