Speaking of children, there are children out there pretending to be homeless and will trick people by leaving their cups on the ground for people to kick them. This is to make people feel sorry for the child and hand them money to make up for it.

Once the child has the money and the person walks away and out of sight, the child will pull out a cellphone to tell whoever was on the other line that their scam worked. I was in Athens when this happened and I was shocked. I haven’t kicked the cup but if I did, I would have ignored the child anyway. Too many Romanians out there trying to rob tourists of money so watch your back.

I was even chased down by a Romanian in Rome as I was making my way to the Colosseum. Luckily, my bag wasn’t stolen.
Romanians? :confused1:

I think it's perfect. I have a Disney one and I hold onto it in front of me. More of a habit then thinking someone is going to steal from me, but it works. Also the lock on it, you would totally feel someone unlocking it.

How is this comment still here? This is offensive and mods should have removed this. i'm pretty shocked that a comment referring to an ethnic group this way (and I am pretty sure the poster means Romani people, not Romanians) is allowed to remain on tPF.

I believe that anthrosphere is only writing about what she personally experienced while in Europe. Unfortunately, when I was in Rome with my husband, we were specifically told by our tour guide to beware of Romanian (not Romani) gypsies who were pickpockets. We were traveling with a very reputable tour company that do tours throughout Europe.
Of course, as with any culture, it doesn't mean that every Romanian person is a thief, but it is a fact that in Rome these
people are prevalent, enough so that tour operators warn their clients to beware of "Romanian gypsies." Two people in our group were targets, but fortunately, their valuables were secure, and the thieves were unsuccessful. Tour directors are not being stereotypical about these gypsies, but just stating a fact and advising clients to use caution. In our case, it was in Rome.

The stereotyping of "Gypsies", who ARE an ethnic group (and are Romani, not Romanian), actually is offensive - just substitute your ethnic group into that tour operator's sentence if you do not believe so. Is it not enough to say "beware of thieves"? Romani/Gypsies have been the victims of prejudice and genocide for centuries and it's as uncool to support that as it is to support any other racial stereotype. However if tPF management does not believe this is offensive speech, I am not going to argue the point further in this forum.

Anthrosphere didn't say anything about gypsies, and isn't a Romanian a person from Romania?

I keep the tote on my lap in front of the Dinky on public transit and just keep my hand resting on the purse in crowds. I haven’t felt unsafe or targeted at all, although we are aware and careful.

The Dinky 24 holds a lot comfortably; the main section fits a small coach folding wallet, Longchamp coin purse for charging cable/earbuds, tin of mints, blotting paper, lip liner and lipstick, inhaler and a small portable battery. The turnlock holds our hotel key and museum passes securely, the front slot holds more mints, a small map and photocopy of our passports and my phone goes in the back slot. It closes easily with no bulging at all, I could get more in if I wanted to.

I highly recommend this purse for travel.

I agree the Dinky is great for travel. I had a custom leather strap made so I could have it cross body at the length I wanted and used it successfully for a trip to the Canadian Rockies. I really loved having it. I was worried about color transfer (mine is light pink) and possible scratches but it held up beautifully. I don't have the larger size Dinky, mine is the regular size but it held everything I really needed.
