I bought a pair of purple flats on eBay last month. They are dark purple suede which was at the time sold out everywhere. The seller described them as:

Brand New In Box. Never Been Worn. Perfect Condition!

When I got them, they were noticably shopworn. Almost like they had been worn and returned, or just handled too much before they were sold. Am I being too picky? I couldn't get good pics of the wear on the toes but it's similar to what's on the heels.

Suede is too...moody. Just looking at it could leave marks.
Maybe they were tried on at the store or used a couple of times, and if that's the case the "never worn" wouldn't be true. But why make an issue about it if you plan to keep the shoes, KWIM? Are you thinking about returning them? If they're rare and you got a good deal, I would hang on to them and enjoy them.

I am thinking about returning them, because I can get a fresh pair from the current Tory Burch online sale. And for less than what I paid for them on eBay. But it's not the dollar amount, I'm just not comfortable with their condition, the other suede pair I bought from Bloomingdale's was nothing like this pair. They were what I would call "perfect condition."

That's very common shipping/shoe box storage damage. When I (rarely) sell shoes on ebay, I take special care to wrap each shoe in wrapping paper. I ask sellers to do this also when I buy. What happens is that the toe and heel bounce against the inside of the shoe box and get rubbed down. Having tissue in the shoe box isn't enough unless there is tissue at the ENDS.

Then you got your answer, my friend. You know the line, you've seen these shoes in much better condition, you could get them cheaper... Contact the seller, see what he/she says, then you'll know whether you need to SNAD them or not.

ETA: Adopt makes a good point about the box. Do you think the marks could be due to the box/packaging? I just noticed the "last month" part. Today is the 24th...that's a while to wait to bring up issues with the item, though PP gives 45 days.

Lori- I think I have those shoes in brown!

Mine don't look like that AT ALL and I bought them last March at saks!

To me the damage looks like someone who uses their feet to take of their shoes (stepping on the back to to loosen the heel to take them off).

How close to retail did you pay for them? You may be able to take them to a leather store and have them look at it and see if there is anything the can recommend?

Good luck!

You are past a reasonable time to take this up with an Ebay seller. For starters, how can a seller tell if that wear was in fact original or if you added it? You would have had plenty of time to do so, just factually speaking. That would not be the case if you contacted the seller upon receiving and inspecting the shoes.

I'm sorry but I believe buyers have a responsibility to accept their purchase or not, just as sellers have responsibilities.

I have bought tons of these suede shoes and most have some marks in that area. I think it could either be the way they were made or possibly from storage. I would not expect another pair to be perfect. I figured that out with mine and just assumed it was the way they were made after I bought more and all were like that.

Just looks to me like what happens to suede shoes when they sit in a box. The marks are exactly where the shoes would hit the box (toe and heel).

Did you question the seller about this when you first received them? A month seems like a very long time to wait until you bring it up IMO.

Lori- Whats the verdict? Did you return?

Still contemplating although leaning toward return.

As a seller, I can understand how other sellers on this board don't agree with me filing a SNAD this late in the game. However, I have never been happy with them and I don't think that will change.

Plus, my pictures really don't capture how shopworn they are, they truly look much worse in person.
