Diamonds in the shower...?

I dont wear any jewelry in the shower, I used to sometimes wear my diamond studs in the shower. But I heard that the pressure from the water can loosen the setting. So I try to take them off.

I wear all my jewelry (earrings all the time, if Im wearing a necklace than I also don't take it off in the shower) in the shower, except if I'm wearing rings....I take the rings I'm wearing off my fingers before I take a shower.

I would advise not to...and partly because I am a total nutter when it comes to my jewelry.

My reasoning is a combo of conditioner and soap buildup, safety of the clasp on the chain holding it or if you get your bath poof stuck on it and then you are standing there with a poof hanging off your body...and general comfort.

Feel free to ignore the nutjob over here.

Gold is porous, and showering with it on is bad b/c eventually it will make the gold brittle.
This happened to me with a gold necklace many years ago. My mother told me NOT to wear it when I bathed b/c the chain would eventually break. I didn't listen to her, and sure enough, almost 3 years later, it broke!

Do you think the water and soap would damage silver over time? Like a Tiffany piece for example. I've always wondered whether or not it would discolour the metal.

Also does prolonged sunshine do any harm to metal (gold/silver/plat etc) and coloured stones over a period of time? When I'm sunbathing 24/7 it might be something worth looking into!

Thanks ladies!!
I've still been wearing it in the shower... because its so difficult to take on and off! I'm pretty careful with it in the shower, because I'm still not used to wearing jewelry in the shower! I used to take everything off before I got in.
It's a pretty simple cross (just what I wanted!) but I'm still concerned about the diamonds. Plus, its gold and I wouldnt want it to become brittle...

White gold and hot water don't really work well together so be careful if its white gold.

Also, you might want to investigate changing your drain in the shower to a mesh fitting so that if a diamond does pop out, it can be caught in the mesh (like a tea strainer or a fine sieve) rather than just going down the drain.

I never wear jewels in the shower. I just figure why bother with the risk.

You know, you can ALSO order a different kind of clasp from a local jeweler to you -- that would make your necklace easier to remove and put on again.
