What's the "lowest" quality you would consider for a pair of diamond stunds? I'd like to get a pair that face up white with lots of brilliance. What do you suggest? Also would around 1 ctw be a "good" size for daily wear?

As long as you get an excellent cut you can go lower on the other specs. The cut is what makes the stone brilliant and sparkly.

I would definitely go with SI1 or SI2 because it will lower the price considerably and there won't be a visible difference to the eye from higher clarity stones. With color, well-cut stones will face up whiter than other stones. Personally I would even go as low as J but if you think you might be color-sensitive you might want to stick with H or I.

Thanks for your replies! I might not get the diamond studs right now but I will start to look and after having read your replies I know what to start looking for!

Id say I-J color is the lowest and probably SI1/SI2 is the lowest clarity. On my ears I am not as concerned. As long as they look good and are ideal cut, I am not going to panic.

i agree that cut needs to be the best, but color and clarity isn't so significant so you can go lower than what you might normally be comfortable with. when it's on the ears, it's not as in your face as a pendant or ering. 1 carat total weight sounds like a good daily size...it also depends on your ear lobes.

I have been looking at some studs yesterday and today (and I have even been dreaming about diamond studs:blushing:) and I am now convinced of that G/H and SI1 or SI2 is the way to go! I am in contact with a lovely jeweller and hopefully I can buy the diamond studs soon!

^ Congrats, kashmira! I hope you find the perfect pair for you!

I have a pair of ideal J SI1's on their way to me... hoping that the ideal cut will make the Js face up whiter! Fingers crossed!

Ideal cut- is that corresponding to for example "ideal cut" on BlueNile?

I don't honestly think of Blue Nile as "ideal" no matter how ideal they claim it to be. They might be nice, but they are not my idea of ideal cut.

Good old gold, brian gavin, whiteflash, they sell real ideal cut stones. I don't prefer the whiteflash company and I still have bittnerness towards brian gavin from his time at whiteflash but they sell amazing stones.

I bought my pair (still on its way) from BlueNile, ideal cut. It'll be interesting to see them in person. I did the build-your-own-earrings, and the stones in that section are certified - I didn't know this before I bought them, so I didn't get to see who certified them, but it's likely the report is from the GIA.
