I am still planning to upgrade my diamond studs soon (got sidetracked by my Love cuff as my last big jewellery purchase back in July) and am desperate for some advice ladies!

I originally thought I wanted between 1.20 and 1.50 carat studs, but having seen a colleague's which are just over 1 carat in total I am now second guessing my decision! These will be for everyday wear as I prefer drop/cluster earrings for evening. I don't want the look to be too OTT for work but still to be 'visible' enough to be noticeable and justify the expense iykwim. My current studs are 0.25 in each ear.

My colleague's look a lovely size and of course 1 carat studs will be a lot cheaper than the 1.26 carat ones I have been drooling over, so I just wondered if anyone has any modelling pics of sizes between 1.20 and 1.50 ttcw that they could post so I can see what the visual difference is likely to be? I realise the look will depend on earlobe size/coverage and everyone is so different, but seeing some photos will really help influence my decision :smile1:

TIA!

I like a bigger size personally. I have small ears but not teeny lobes. I don't think I have any modeling pics, but here's my post in the Library. I suggest looking there, there's a TON of posts/info there.

Thanks so much Swanky! I just had a look and am nearly convinced I will go for the bigger size, I won't be upgrading again for a very long time so want these to be as versatile as possible :smile1:

I don't think there will be that much visual difference between 1ct and 1.26. Personally I'd go for the 1.5! My 1.5 studs are princess so not much help to you. I could definitely go bigger for everyday. Lovely dilemma.

Thanks for the advice everyone :smile1: I think I am sold on going bigger but 1.50 ttcw is the maximum I can afford right now so will look in that bracket. I will update once I have bought my studs! :graucho:

I think you'll be happier with the larger studs. I have 1.5 ct. - if you can afford that, go for it! Mine were a gift from DH (after a few well-placed hints from me). I'm just glad he didn't go smaller. At this point, I'm not interested in upgrading, although it would have been nice to have bigger diamonds! 😉

Your DH sounds so sweet! Any chance of a photo of your gorgeous studs? :smile1: Since that is the size I am leaning towards it would be great to see some photos!

I have found a beautiful pair of ideal/VS1/F 1.50 ct studs - I just have to get my head around the price as jewellery is so expensive here in the UK and I keep thinking I could get a second Love with change from the same amount! I have also found a pair of ideal/SI/G 1.30 ct studs from the same vendor which are half the price, there seems to be a massive price differential once you hit the 1.50 mark. I am wondering whether to aim for somewhere in between 1.30 and 1.49 - is there even a significant visual difference between 1.30 and 1.50 ct to justify the huge increase in price?!

My studs are G/VS2, branded cut and I found the color/clarity to be a good compromise as long as the cut is excellent/ideal.
For some reason if you can keep the TCW just under 1.50 you will get a break in price and not notice a difference.
Keep us posted...................

Thanks Skyqueen! What do you think of J colour with VS2 clarity and ideal cut? I have found a pair of 1.48 carat studs with those stats but am a bit hesitant on the colour. I have an ideal cut pendant with VS2 clarity and I colour from the same vendor though and the diamond is stunning (and faces up white), so I'm not sure if J would be that different being just one colour grade lower than I? These are using the build your own studs tool and I would choose a three prong martini setting in 18k white gold.

I am only looking at ideal cut diamonds but am happy to play around a bit with clarity and colour to get the best deal size and price-wise.
