You're not going to see most clarity differences without a loupe, that's a good thing. You also might not see color differences without the stones out of a mounting and face down on a paper. The difference you need to be worrying about should be cut quality. THAT is the most important C. When you have well cut stones, then concern yourself about the color and clarity grades and what you see and can't see within them.

oh, okay..wow, I thought it was the clarity. I just looked at the appraisal and the clarity says " fair"..

Wow..... I had NO idea this could be done..does it always work?...does the diamond lose size?..

The clarity might pose a problem when considering a re cut. Brian can better advise you after he sees the diamond. How much size the diamond loses depends how much re cutting needs to be done to achieve better performance.

If you are re-cutting the stone it's a guaranteed that you will lose some of the weight of your diamond. Have you gotten an idea from your jeweler of what you can be expected for your trade in? If not, perhaps get an idea of it to see if you can get the diamonds to be better cut and clarity, though it'll definitely going to be smaller than what you want. Then consult Brian to see if the re-cutting will be better? If either the case don't work for you, I think it's best to keep it and save or upgrade the stones now and pay the difference, since diamond prices have skyrocketed so much and it's likely to continued. Good luck!

You're going to lose size in carat weight and likely in diameter, and the clarity could become a problem, yes, but they can tell you if the stones are candidates and how much loss you might suffer. The diameter might not change too much but the carat weight will go down, possibly significantly, due to the cutting being done to proper proportions.

Worth a consideration for sure.

Yeah, I agree with PPs....you will lose some carat weight on a recut, but just how much would vary based on a lot of factors. The best thing to do would be have BG evaluate them. It may be a really great idea, or a not so good one depending on the stones.

so, I went to the jeweler who sold them.... They told me they are I1, just as everyone else has said..some have told me SI2 as well. I guess I need to send them to GIA for an absolute....so when I look at these earings, and when I compare them to others, these are great color, and really have a beuatiful sparkle......I also did some research and realized that after I clean them, I need to use a small piece of lint free paper to hold them in place so I wont get a fingerprint on them....this also makes a HUGE difference.......I looked at them with the loupe, and on one I did see some tiny black specs, which you cant see without magnifying...the other one has what looks like a tiny scratch on the outer part of the diamond, no specs.....hence the lower clarity......even with these blemishes, they do look great and bright, not cloudy, which I was seeing when they were dirty.............I llove wearing them........SO, I do realize now that in order to get over 4 CTW great cut and clarity, I need to spend another 25-30k more , even with a trade...I dont feel that I need to do that now..............because, honestly, I really think Iam the only one who would know there are these issues with the stones, especially on my ears.....thanks so much for all of your imput, as I have really learned a lot in a short period of time.......I have always loved diamonds, but never took the time to learn about them.....
